He has to mitigate for the remainder of his contract, and Sexton got him a sweet, low-stress deal with Saban. If he took a real job, he'd have to work hard and have less time with his family.

I don’t think I buy he had to work there to get his buyout. Fulmer certainly didn’t go work anywhere to get his buyout

No way he takes an intern position at Bama without our buyout money. That screams cheap suit. F him. Guarantee if he wins a ring at Bama as an intern he never takes it off and sells himself as a championship coach. The guy is nauseating. I don’t feel the least bit bad for him.

I'm talking about JG not Butch!

He’s my thing. Everyoned acting like they know he’s awful when only a select few thought he was awful heading into the year. Most of us thought he was at worst serviceable.

It’s entirely possible he gets back to his form of last season which would at least give us a chance in some games going forward
I don't know a single person who didn't already think he was terrible. But I haven't met his mom. Unless you mean coming out of HS. He seemed good then.

I think Pruitt is just riding with JG to get past Bama. Then he goes with the young guys. I think they get snaps every game, but after Bama they turn them lose. Why feed them to the wolves and kill their confidence in guaranteed losses like UGA & Bama ? Have a solid package for them in the Mississippi St game then start one of them at home against USCjr

This makes sense to me. Much better than the alternative of thinking the coaches "see something in practice" that just hasn't translated to Saturdays.

I desperately want to watch a different QB in orange for 4 quarters. I no longer expect to win regardless of who starts.

You’re ridiculous dude lol...did your boy JG manage to get those 3 points in the swamp or did Maurer “The Freshman”? ...I’m assuming if that doesn’t work, you’ll compare Pruitt sending Maurer out there in swamp to butch sending Peterman out in the swamp..difference is Maurer got us points..moving us down the field..how many more stats do you need before you realize JG hasn’t given us anything in 3 years and has regressed as a veteran QB?...your perception on Maurer isn’t hardly fair considering the coaching staff has only allowed Brian a total of 13 Pass attempts to JG’s 93?...which by the way he’s right on par with his “Consistent “ average” that we have seen for the last 3 years...dude is topped out he isn’t good, let it go.

You can reject the stats and experienced coach opinions all you want, but they are what they are. I wish there was a better option. I wish coaches had a plan B they could believe in. All evidence is to the contrary. Gotta live with it at some point. This is who we are for now.

Yea I certainly believe that just don’t think it’s enforceable especially when talking about a non on field coaching job.

Plenty of great coaches have sat out years all together and still gotten buyouts

Butch wanted to volunteer as an unpaid assistant coach at KCHS while his son was there, but UT enforced the mitigation clause. So Sexton worked a deal with Saban that technically covers him. Butch could be working for higher pay elsewhere if he wanted to resurrect his career. Just wait-- he'll bolt from his internship March 1, 2021.

No, Butch has a contractual obligation to mitigate. He wanted to volunteer as an unpaid assistant at KCHS while his son was there, but UT enforced the mitigation clause. Interesting To follow

Thanks

Seems dumb of tenn to do that

Each contract is different. Fulmer likely didnt have a clause heavy mitigation standard because he had built up a ton of good will and wasnt going anywhere when his contract was negotiated.

That actually makes a lot of sense and good info from you. I’ve wondered why he hasn’t really gotten any consideration for jobs. I mean just looking at his resume it’s better than some of the coaches getting jobs.

For people not too familiar with the UT situation he can name a lot of NFL guys he recruited and brought in and our best two years of the decade and not be lying or wrong.

Is this mitigation clause why we randomly see these articles every now and again about how he would be interested in such and such job

You can be both be serviceable and awful at the same time.
Huh?

No being awful means losing games for ones team. Like the BYU

Being serviceable means managing your team without losing games like he did last year but also not winning any for your team either

That’s my definition anyway

Seriously he’s awful always has been. All anyone has to do it is look at how many threads are started talking about just how awful he is over the last 2 years, from all the merging I think there’s a super mega thread in the FF now. He SHOULD also be serviceable based on how freaking long he’s done this for at least ONE season.

See how easy both can be.
