And this is why we must embrace the suck for awhile. Even if Pruitt is not the answer, there is not a viable plan B right now. The bed is made. Better to support the team and Pruitt for now because this is your team and coach whether you like it or not
Sadly, this is most likely true. I'll have to just learn to care less about college football because there's no way I'm pulling for another team. I hope that the people associated with ruining Tennessee football, get exposed for it one day in a 30 for 30.

He’s still cutting checks regardless.

$15M is the buyout for Pruitt and his staff.
1) not all of that is paid by boosters, you know that. $15M is not a truly significant amount of money when the stadium is 75% full for the next two seasons.
2) I don’t think the entire staff would be fired.
3) you’re going to have to pay a buyout in a year anyway.

You might be the most doom and gloom person on VN right now. Congratulations.

How many times are people going to pretend like Larry isn’t the best insider out there? He’s been damn near on the money about everything. Ultimately I think he’s right about Pruitt. Our fan base got way to excited about him and set the bar way higher than it should’ve been.

Dude has never been a head coach at any level yet we thought he was just going to kill it with a bunch of butch rejects. His players are the ones that show the most upside. Best that the fans can do is support him to help in recruiting and hope that by year 3 or 4 we have a deep enough roster to compete. Sucks but firing him will do no good and we are 100% not getting an elite coach if we get rid of him.

Larry is only "right" because he's consistently pessimistic and that aligns with us consistently sucking. He has said many times that he no longer has connections with the program like he used to. He's speculating like everyone else.

Maybe in todays day and age and with todays rules rebuilds just aren't possible. There hasn't been a program yet that has been in football purgatory like TN and been able to be rebuilt into an NC contender. Maybe it just isn't possible

He also said his gut feeling as to who we were going to hire was Chris Peterson. So...yeah.

Average QB play and we’re probably 3-1
Exactly. This is what we need to keep in mind. Defense played damn well sat but got exhausted. Really hope we start playing Maurer. He’s our only shot at a bowl game. We know damn well JG is just going to keep 💩ing his pants

I think Pruitt knows his hands are tied with what he wants with his team. He wants his guys here, not Butch's recruits.
assume that's true....it's not like he gets a choice. he has what he has, and it would behoove him to figure out how to win as much as he can with what he's got.

which i believe is what they've tried to do.

siap yesterday....there's talent at the very oldest spots of this roster...and at the very youngest spots. the wide middle is just a bunch of bodies.

i don't think there's a quick fix here, and i didn't when they hired him.

this year has not gone lilke i thought it would at all, and has at best added another year to the rebuild--not the goal....

i think we're hitched to this wagon for now, but i am still increasingly frustrated that not a single coach we've hired has been able to do more with the previous guys' players than they have. not a single one.

at some point, doesn't that tell you something about the rosters that have been passed down? Dooley has gone on to be considered a good coach and has been good at Mizzou. Stoops is winning awards at MSU. Wilcox is winning road games in the SEC...in the pac 12. Kiffin went on to be one of the best OC's in college football....Deboard is winning at Indiana...........butch is interning at bama....still. several of butch's staff are winning at other SEC schools...larry scott doing well at UF for example.

at what point is not all just the coach? at what point does situation play in to it and understanding that time may in fact be what is needed?

i don't know that to be the case here. i didn't believe that to be the case with Dooley or Butch....i was out on them relatively quickly.

i believed in what Kiffin was doing. and i've believed in what Pruitt has been doing up to this point...........results matter. they're not good....but even i think year 2 is a tad early to cut the cord....especially considering the alternatives being presented around here.....

Clearly his pessimism is well founded. He’s dead on that we won’t hire a good coach if we fire Pruitt. Better to just give JP Jonny majors amount of time to rebuild this thing. We probably aren’t going to do better than him and this staff

There again, it's just a differing of opinion. It's the kind of thing that goes on in a forum. I don't think decisions will be made regarding the program based on what you or I think.
don't think i said it would. just said your takes are lazy and old. jmo.

Issue is really the way contracts get structure in college football. I will never for the life me understand how piss poor performance and misconduct gets you fired WITH FULL PAY.

Just look at the Antonio Brown situation, granted that guy is fully deserving of what he's getting. Still though, his contract meant nothing, NCAA can learn a lot from the professionals. You can't perform, you don't get paid.

But for the future of UT regardless of how well he does on the field, we need CJP to be here 3 full years. He & his staff have too much on the line to just throw in the towel, so they'll continue to pull in the best talent they can get and develop them the best they can. And if he's got the roster flipped at least the next HC starts with more to mold from.

And then you take your head outta your ass and you pay a proven HC who (hopefully) has a history of being able to rebuild programs.

I think it means we know that the firing a coach every 3 years model doesnt work out just as much. Its bet to see what a coach can do in year 5 at this point than be at "year 0" every 3 years. CFB is not the NFL, you cant just flip a team in 2 years. It's better to keep a coach around long enough to have a roster with juniors and seniors who participated in a strength programs so if we do have to make a change atleast the new coach will inherit a program with able bodies.
It does work. If you know someone is not going to work and you usually know within 2-3 years, then you move on. The problem is we keep making terrible hires and not hiring proven head coaches who win. Period.

Some of the names that get thrown out during coaching searches are just so laughable after the fact. I mean, they're laughable in the moment as well, but there's some sort of hysteria that whips the fanbase into a frenzy into believing the impossible. Myself included.

We would be on our 5th coach in a decade. Which current top 25 program can you point to that used the model of coach roulette to become a top 25 program? As fans we want to keep doing the same thing and hope that it ends up with better results.
