UT has been divided for a long time. Hammy had support from the anti-Fulmer faction, but it was really about bringing in Kiffin when they had the opportunity. He had Kiffin backchanneled or I think Fulmer would have had more time. I mean, Fulmer was coming off a division championship and had won the division something like six times in the past decade. Clearly, it was more backroom politics than winning or losing.

You're right-- wouldn't it be nice to be half that successful now?
Didn’t the anti-Fulmer crowd arise due to the way Majors was replaced and how bitter he became as he thought he was Tennessee football (at least in his mind).

Most people predicted that we would go 7 and 5 this year before the season started. If that still happened meaning we go 6 and 0 against the teams that aren't Georgia and Alabama, would you be satisfied? and would it make you excited for year 3? Or would you still be ready to move on from Pruitt? Please give yes or no answers and not well that's not happening so it doesn't matter.
Of course. That would mean he actually learned from his mistakes and is improving. For whatever reason it's been the complete opposite so far. Ever since the Auburn game Tennessee has looked WORSE than any other Tennessee team I can remember.

My mother liked the National championship, but she has not forgiven or forgotten.

Yes. But not on the board. Right now, UT seems in sync, top-down. I suppose the chancellor could become a wild card, but she seems pretty hands-off athletics.

Sorry if you’ve answered this but do you see a scenario where Pruitt is fired this year?

Abso freaking lutely

Ok so you peaked my interest. I read the Staples piece... Abd just finished thamels...

Oof.

Yep.. Two totally different narratives...
Staples is closer to the truth, but even "recruit our way out of the problem" sounds a little vacuuous right now when 1) we seem unable to develop any level of recruited talent and 2) recruiting is going to be significantly harder with this season.

Buut as much as it sucks there is simply no better solution outside of our pipe dream where Urban is on the backline ready to sign on for the toughest job of his life. Smh

Found this thread lurking deep. Amazing how we all felt about this kid 4 years ago. Wish he had decent coaching his first 2 years.....only so much Chaney and Weinke could do once they had him.

It's good to read through a few pages and realize he really is a good kid, just didn't come into a good situation. Wish him the best going forward.

Anyway.....thought everyone would like the blast from the past. His commitment is on pages 70-75 or so.

For Johnny?

We went on one of if not the greatest runs in school history. We have absolutely done some stupid things in the past but that was not one of them.
I agree. She is just a huge Majors fan. Followed him as a player and then thrilled when Johnny came marching home to be the coach. She loved the players and the teams under Fulmer, but she has never cared for the coach, that I can tell..

Does anyone know if the back up QBs get the same number of reps with the first team as JG? Just wondering because this was one of CJP philosophical approaches during his introduction...everyone gets the same reps and the goal was to put the best players on the field. I just cannot fathom WTH JG is showing in practice to separate himself so much more from the others. There has to be underlying issues and/or ulterior motives in the reluctancy to make a QB change. 🤔

I even wonder if it is what he is showing as much as a lack of what others are showing. Word from everyone seeing practices wasn't that JG looked like a heisman candidate, it was the other guys didn't nearly look ready.

Of course.

Would also be excited with 6-6.

Even 5-7 would give me a little hope this start was anomalous. Beat UAB, Vandy, USC, UK. 3-5 conference, fine.

I think a very big point that is being largely overlooked - but I saw mentioned a few pages back - is how the new 25 signing limit is hurting new coaches in need of rebuilding/changing a culture. Imagine if Pruitt could’ve booted dudes to the transfer portal and brought in 30-35 studs his first two years like Butch? I think we’d have a different young QB playing right now, and even more freshmen and sophomores playing and showing some serious potential.

I hated that rule change when it was first enacted and I think all the concerns about making it harder for teams to burst on the scene and catch up to the top guys have come true.

Things are harder than ever to turn around. Pruitt hasn’t given us much hope, but I think patience is still a major key, right behind finding a new QB.
Thank you Houston Nutt. He pretty much ruined it for everyone.

I'd be thrilled with 6 total wins.

JG almost certainly transfers at the end of this season, but would be interesting if he ends up on a team that plays in a post-NYE bowl. His recruiting thread was started in 2013 and there's a chance we could watch him take a snap in college in 2021.

On the QB issue, I can't fathom they've not known what they've had in JG given the last year, spring practice, and fall camp. They should have had one of the other two QBs ready by now. Pruitt has said neither is ready. I'd argue JG isn't ready either. It's on the staff that Shrout or Mauer aren't ready enough to take over for JG. My gut tells me that they're trying too hard to make JG the QB.

Remember when they were giving Maurer and JT double reps to one for JG. They’ve been trying to get them ready and that tells me JG is fine in practice then can’t handle it when the lights come on and when adversity hits.
