yeah, and that's the thing that's missing now that i did have, at least every now and then, when i was growing up. late 70's/early 80's were bleak, but once we broke the streak to Bama in 82, things started looking up, had 85 and 89, the big win over Auburn in 85, and a bowl streak started, and then on in to the 90's..... so when i was a kid from about age 6 or 7 thru basically my early 30's, we were pretty much relevant every year. so TN football was an event on Saturdays in my house. we did plan around it, and it was very much a family affair....aunts, uncles, grandparents....all gathered around the TV with John Ward on the radio...chips, dips, and drinks for the adults........good times, except when we lost lol. my mom and grandmother were the ones that took it the most serious...never heard either of them cuss except on football saturday......

which is probably what i miss most. sure, winning was great, and it certainly was a catalyst for the rest, but really, i miss the "event" that TN football was.....

maybe some of that is just on me, but it's not been for lack of trying...lol....they get how important it is to me, and my wife is a die hard Steeler fan, so sundays are an event for her and her family, so there's an understanding between us...we get it....but even as successful as the Steelrs have been the past 15 years, really, my kids were either infants or not born yet the last time they won anything big, so even that's taken a step in the wrong direction.....add to the fact that we can't see every STeeler game or that many are on Sunday, Thursday or Monday nights, those are school nights..........

anyway...........rambling now.

really hope we win tomorrow.
All that ain't about winning though, or it shouldn't be, and that is what you have to teach your kids...and in this day and age it is really hard.

9:00 am start time for me here in the west coast. No GF over and no distractions.
I don't allow other humans to be around me while watching the UT/UF game. My wife takes the kids and they leave for the day. I have had friends watch with me in the past but that was always the last time they wanted to watch a game with me lol. It's not pleasant, this game in particular, as you guys know. I wish I had a good reason to not watch this year but I don't. So it'll be me and a bottle of bourbon.

Not taking a shot at you because a lot of people have had similar thoughts, but it’s funny the difference 10 days make.

There was near unanimous agreement that the only reason we lost to a middling BYU team is because JG killed us.

Now he’s supposedly the guy that’ll lead us down to The Swamp and beat a top 10 Gator team.
i haven't seen that this week.

i've seen a lot of stuff about how JG can't be the reason we lose.....not a whole lot of "err'thing's ok, we got JG"............

if anything, there's been a whole lot more "don't think we'll win, but here's how we can" and most of that when you see JG's name brought up has a lot more to do with "if's" and simply not being the reason we lose......

hoping the O line, backs and TE's can protect...hoping we can establish a run game....hoping the WR's ball out...hoping that JG "figures it out"........

not sure where you're seeing anyone saying JG is going to put us on his back and take us to vicotry.

Here's the difference between being a Vols fan, and watching Vols football.

I'm all in on us upsetting the Gators. This happens every year, every week, it doesn't matter. It's why I don't bet, because I'd lose a lot of money. I don't pick against my Vols, ever (except against Bama >.<)

I think Trask starting in the Swamp at noon is a benefit, I think our DL and OLB guys are about to have a field day. The secondary having BT back and Bituli in the lineup with Kenny George emerging and Burrell getting more experience.

I BELIEVE!!!

Thats not what he said

My key to winning Saturday..............we absolutely need our RB`s and WR`s to break some long TD runs-ST would be bonus!!
I have no faith in JG driving us the length of the field for a win at the end of the game.
I wish JP would start another qb just so I could hear bitching about another player.

I’m all glad JJ scored and everything, but why did the Florida safety play tag football with him at about the 5 yard line? He looked to have an angle on him. Sure glad it was their safety and not ours doing that.
Slapping JJ in the head has always peaved me. He purposefully smacked his helmet. No intention to tackle, just went for his head lol

No, I get you. You’re basically saying hopefully he manages the game and doesn’t kill us.

I’m just saying that was the gameplan against a much worse team and it didn’t work.

right and i do agree.. but also a big part of our defensive plan is to be at least +2 in turnovers. we do that, or better, and i think we win a close one. We haven't really done that yet against a real team. with two QB's who are either unproven or not good (Trask & JG), i think qb play will be a wash, and if JG can game manage, the defense can make some turnovers, we have a shot.

in conclusion-- I'm NOT confident in our offense, however, if the defense can keep us alive and keep the pressure on Trask to make big plays, we hang on to the ball, we can win this game

That was me last year. Had friends over to watch the game, and ended drinking myself into sorrows with our performance.
