Maurer TD

Did anyone notice Pruitt and Weinke talking to Maurer after his touchdown? It looked like they were being a little harsh to him. Does anyone know what was going on?

I noticed the same thing. Only thing I can think of is that he had people open and instead risked his body. He didn’t seem to look for receivers at all on the play.

He likely knows this was his only shot... I like the call he made.
Several feel like he audibled into the call. If so congrats. Has not Chaney himself said he likes his QB's to do that. It may have been against a weak opponent but if indeed he did do that it shows he has some type of awareness and his head is in the game. More than I can say about JG who's never gonna audible to himself. Still think it likely they didn't like one-handed stretch out. CJP is down on poor ball handling big time.

He may think he can win somewhere else. He may believe he'd have a shot at the NFL somewhere else.

He isn't a good QB. Nothing "armchair" about it. As a year 4 QB, he doesn't read D's well making him constantly late throwing the ball. He doesn't know how to throw a receiver open meaning he's limited to just throwing it up or only throwing to wide open receivers.

The OL hasn't been perfect but they played well enough to win both of the previous games. The D played well enough if the O had consistently moved the ball. The receivers are getting open. The backs are running hard. ST's is good. This team is 1-2 with two horrible losses because of JG's decision making.
Best option for him is to transfer to Rutgers if they need a QB or he has a chance to play there. He can further his education. I'm a vol fan and would love to think he can have some good games in the upcoming conference battles but he hasn't demonstrated any improvement in these 3 games against weak opponents so I don't expect to see any playmaking abilities going forward. I'd cut bait and start anew under these circumstances and build for the future if I were coaching, knowing full well criticism is coming either way I go.

Maybe he wants to stay at Tennessee and prove to all you negavols that he is a good QB and can win football games with a little bit of help from his team mates and fans.
Well he best start Sat. in Gainesville. I've been as patient as I'm gonna be in the matter. I liked both of our backups getting an opportunity prior to UTC game and now I like it more. If JG commits a T/O, misses open receivers in 1st half, throw the youngins in the fire. They'll learn.

Like it or not, he gives us the best chance to win right now. If and when our goals are out the window, I hope Pruitt will play the younger players all over the field including qb.

If JG does transfer, I expect him to become a superstar at his next school and end up making an NFL roster. It's become the norm for the qbs who transfer out of our program.

I think it is a tough spot for Pruitt. There's a "cost" to going either direction. I agree with you. I'd be more willing to accept the "pain" of the mistakes of a young guy more than the limitations of a guy who seems to have hit his ceiling at a level too low to play winning football.

Many good coaches by now have tried to "fix" what's wrong with JG. None have been successful. Pruitt and/or Chaney may not believe it is a lost cause... I'm concerned that it is.

so now ur into making things up against the guy. pathetic what folk will do for likes.
How is it "making something up" when it is so common today? It is called speculation. If you think he's going to hold off these 2 Fr plus Bailey next fall playing the way he's playing... then we'll just have to disagree. My wager is that he'll make that calculation too.

and as far as the other 2.......against an fcs opponent........yes, that IS the right question.
Only if you are a JG cultist. If you are a Vol fan then you want a guy whose ceiling is high enough to actually win games that matter consistently. JG in 4 years simply has not been able to become that guy. Nothing personal. He just has not developed mentally.

It isn't "negavols" that are critical of him. It isn't "true" Vols that blindly support him.

sub that with JT Shrout unless ur talking a few designed runs. Maurer's arm is a noodle. idk what u missed on all 3 of his attempts that still gives u hope
The fact that it was only three attempts in his first college game.
As in 1. 2. 3.

Not a lot...

nobody wants to lose due to a later higher ceiling except you and ur speculating self. ur not making any sense

To the JG haters, pray he doesn't get hurt because there is zero possibility we are even competitive with the backups. Whether it is talent or training we are doomed.

I seriously doubt anyone that is critical of JG, myself included, is rooting for him to get hurt.

You really need to go through the numerous “we hate JG” threads before you bet the mortgage on your beliefs. A normal human being wouldn’t feel that way....just sayin.

A normal human doesn't spout off on message boards either.....
