Let's knock off the criticism

I realize that everyone who is a Vols fan is disappointed in the program over the last decade and have BVS, we have been disrespected by the sports media for far too long, and the last coaching search was a debacle, to say the least. We have people posting on here who call the players bad names and talk about how bad they are, wanting a coaching change after the first two games of the season, making disparaging remarks about the coaches. We as fans need to understand what kind of affect we can have on the program, both good and bad. When the players are called something like liquid garbage, like I saw in a post this morning, that is totally uncalled for. Support our guys, make encouraging posts, and let the recruits know we support them and want them instead of making remarks that may change their minds about coming to Tennessee. When a player is singled out and repeatedly criticized, a highly rated recruit who plays that position and is strongly considering Tennessee may chose to go somewhere else, so they don't have to endure that type of ridicule. So what say we knock off the negativism toward the players and coaches and support the team. And yes, I am disappointed in the way the season has gone so far, but I'm not going to be making any of the comments I have seen on here from some posters. Let's get behind the team instead of being so critical all the time. It seems like Fulmer said during the introductory press conference for Pruitt that it would take 4-5 years to get it turned around, yet here we are with people calling for Pruitt's head after fifteen games.

If recruits don’t come here because of things “fans” say on a message board then those recruits are mighty thin skinned.
Besides, this team got man handled by a GaSt team that got beat by 47 against W Michigan.
That’s gonna take time and win’s to get over, period.
BTW, if the wins don’t come, you might want to steer clear of message boards and the media, because it can get a lot uglier......................

The Ga St game was really bad, but the week to week improvement has been promising. Is it enough? Who knows, but it's obvious the team and staff are working on it. Maybe a lot of the credit goes to NCAA imposed rules on off season practice and the effort to make big change with freshman players and new and shuffled staff rather a poor performance by the players themselves. It takes time to jell as a team. Don't be surprised if you find the band had more practice time together than the football team playing as a team had by the first game.
Serious question: How much 'progress' can one see by beating one of the weakest teams (UTC) 45-0?

Most fans would feel better if UT had pulled out the Ga St game even had it been ugly. Most would have also felt better had the QB played better against BYU or we not blown a coverage late and won. Even tho it was probably closer than it should have been.

There would have still been some critical of the play (me included) but 3-0 is better than 1-2.

And 1-2 is better than 0-3.

UT had some boneheaded penalties Saturday and still have a ton to fix but I doubt many fans would have picked UT over Chatt 45 - 0 on the afternoon of Aug 31.
I prolly wouldnt have even tho Chatt is not very good.

Have they arrived after beating a bad team by 45? No. Not close.
Were they better Saturday than they were against Ga St? Yes. And it wasnt really hard to see.

Who on the OL is not SEC caliber?

As a group they are below avg compared to other SEC teams. With three 5 stars and one 4 star starting this past Saturday on it i think it will get better. It has improved since last season. However as a whole unit compared to other SEC o lines I doubt they are in the top half of the SEC. 3rd&1 and 4th&1 is still a challenge against teams like chattanooga. Hard to consider the group a team strength when they can't line up and consistently knock back Ga state, BYU, and Chattanooga Dlineman on a short yardage run to convert a 1st down when they need too.

The point is that except for some teams with tremendous depth (and Tennessee isn't one of them) each year is really a new beginning, As far as the old adage about the second year, that was before early signing, stricter rules on recruiting numbers, and likely tighter practice rules ... it's going to take longer to develop depth that matches a new coach's style. There was a recent article showing how year two coaches were doing, and it wasn't pretty ... not at all. Don't be surprised if the NCAA has to loosen up the recruiting numbers because with normal attrition and new transfer options, teams with coaching change can't stay up to the scholarship limits. Early recruiting insures that the first year's recruits except in very few cases will absolutely not be the incoming coach's recruits. Coaching change is going to be a far bigger penalty than it ever was in the past ... really bad timing for us.

The 25 man signing class rule is terrible for us trying to rebuild. We can't miss on many recruits. Also hard to take a chance on a talented kid with questionable grades. The rule doesn't hurt those at the top near as much as those at the bottom.

One thing is for sure, this season has certainly brought out this worst in people, and at the same time it’s brought out the best.

Losing to Ga St is inexcusable, and I'm sure CJP agrees. We were one play away from beating what now looks like a pretty good BYU team. We played very well across the board in week three, save some dumb penalities that I'll excuse due to frustration after the first two games.

If we continue to improve each week, there might be a few surprises this year.

I always crack up when people tell others not to criticise the football players "because they're only 18 or 19 year olds.".

Well, we all got told at one point in our lives that we weren't good enough to play football at the next level. It was heartbreaking for all of us when it happened. But whether in happened in Middle School, High School, or college, our pain was just as a great as the college quarterback who is told to sit down on the bench.

No one spared us our feelings. So I don't feel any responsibility to hold back on my opinion with someone who is just not good enough to be an effective SEC quarterback.

At least he got to run through the 'T'.

I would have killed for that opportunity. Heck I would have been happy to have played at Austin Peay. Or even Rutgers.

To me, the most important thing is the team. I refuse to hold my tongue and watch us suck for the next two years to spare an adult athlete's feelings, an adult athlete who has gotten to experience all the great crap that goes along with being a college football player.

As a fan, I don't owe any of these players anything. I'm a Tennessee fan. I want to win, not coddle a loser.

Bless your heart , I dont think your rallying the fan base speech is working? I am just wondering, if recruits reads this message board then more than likely they are reading other teams message boards. VN is not going to be the major decision for any recruit not to come to Tn. Getting embarrassed by GS and looking inept against BYU is going to play a major roll in that decision. But your kumbaya ,lets have a coming together lecture is a failure I am afraid. But at least you tried. With that saying , this team is
