Right, but what I’m saying is I seem to remember that being the case for Dooley’s last class too.

What I’m getting at is I wonder if there’s something about the combination of a coach being on the hot seat that leads to them taking more “project” recruits and as a result of a coaching search those players are less likely to gel with the new head coach due to maybe scheme fit or something.
Maybe Dooley and Lyle had no integrity or love for UT, other than just a paycheck. They basically sabotaged the program on their way out of the door. The inept coaching searches didn't help either.

He’s a good dude... until football season

Does he drink coffee during football season?

I posted about my boss earlier he’s a UGA fan, he also is good friends with Dooley they went to Clarke Central High together. He said when Dooley left he told him he was in way over his head and never thought a job or fanbase could be more demanding lol.

This is the worst that UT football has ever been in modern history and y'all want to stay the course. Amazing.
88 qualify as “modern”? Cuz it was worse...and Majors fixed it by the end of that season. Also unrelated fun fact, UCLA is starting 0-2 in BACK TO BACK SEASONS for the first time since 48-49...fun.

I would think that is partially on the AD as well. I think having Fulmer there doing his best to emulate his hero (Doug Dickey) is a lot better than having some a$$hole with a MBA who only cares about stadium renovations.

That's the weird thing, Kiffin left us (at the time of leaving) in a far worse spot, but his decision to leave wasn't petty and I really don't believe he holds any ill will towards the program.

Dooley & Lyle both showed to be petty, poking the fanbase on Twitter continue to take their buyout and work lesser jobs until fully getting off the books.

Hey don’t shoot the messenger. Just like i told y’all about JG i told y’all we wouldn’t make a bowl game if we hired Chaney. Well here we are 0-2.
Just need the rest of the season to claim prophet status, start a cult and get hot cult members pregnant. 😎

Not sure Butch has a choice with the lesser jobs thing. I don’t know how much credibility he carries as a head coach.

Totally agree it was on the AD he said he knew nothing nor cared nothing about the results on the field. The demand for winning came from the fans but he was not ready for the job. My boss even said Vince Dooley told him you will never find a more demanding fanbase and that they will eat you alive lol

Pretty sure Dooley didn't have a mitigation clause (thanks Hamilton!). He could have coaches anywhere and still gotten his buyout.

I think Kiffin has buyer's remorse about leaving, and probably thinks "I could have been coaching for Nattys and running through coeds if I'd had stayed."

In reality, the NCAA was comin' for him, and we would have been collateral damage anyways.

Turned down a gig at Maryland to be (at least) a positional coach.

But a position coach is a lesser job. I wonder if he still thinks he can get a substantial HC job? Even more, I wonder if someone would hire him as a HC above FCS level? I’ve always wondered how much his reputation was tarnished outside of our sphere? I know it was tarnished to some significant degree just because he hasn’t seemed to get any serious HC consideration elsewhere, but is there anybody out there still willing to buy what he’s selling?

Oh my, I remember when we were fretting about Michigan coming to poach him off our hands....the FF was a madhouse. I can look back and cry now. We should've let him go....

wanting to win is demanding? News to me....I wonder what job he thought he signed up for?

I meant he stuck with his current role at Bama as an OA rather than taking a position coach gig at Maryland...I think if he wanted to be an OC or HC he would be, there's plenty of Group of 5 openings that wouldn't have any problem paying him. And he'd likely be an 8+ win coach again as well.
You sure he turned it down?

Fair point, I don't know if he really had the job or was just circulating to create buzz. Hard to tell honestly.
