Can y'all imagine if our coaches had Rocketman back there?

We'd be freaking dominating.

Don't get me wrong. Dobbs had his faults too, but it would be light years ahead of what we've got right now.
Not meaning to be disrespectful but the fact that I have to go back to the 1990's or early 2000's to watch reruns or have to reference plays of that time is just down right pathetic

I wanna give @gunner a shoutout for his posts a few weeks back. I gave him s*** for his assessment of this team, but was was way closer to the truth than I was. I thought JG could be a serviceable QB for us. I was totally wrong.

2 weeks into the season, my observations and questions:

  1. We're still not talented enough to give anything other than 100% balls to the wall effort to have a chance to win games
  2. We have some young defenders who can do that, but disorganization on defense is still a problem.
  3. OL is much improved and depth seems to be there. I'm still not a fan of all the rotation, but it may pay off for Darnell and Wanya down the road.
  4. Gray is elusive as hell and Chandler's speed can kill. Still worried about how they'll hold up down the stretch since both aren't big backs. How healthy these guys can stay will likely determine how the rest of this season goes.
  5. Will playing Banks and Crouch on defense pay off for us? Without a QB worth half a s***, it looks like we need a bigger back on offense and those may be the two guys with the highest upside as bigger backs on the roster. Do they (and the defense as a whole) come along far enough to justify taking both off of offense?
  6. Front 7 shows flashes when the effort is there. To'to'o may be a star in the making and the DL is looked way better week 2. Can our DL continue to show this kind of effort and improve throughout the season?
  7. Alignment and substitutions have been an issue. Is this because we're playing so many young guys, or is it more inherent issues stemming from coaching?
  8. Cimaglia may be our best offensive weapon and STs has been good. Should we just give up on being a high scoring offense and just start scheming to get into range for him?
  9. Can we bring along Shrout or Maurer enough to give the offense more juice? Sitting at 0-2, a bowl game doesn't seem too likely. Can we develop one of these guys enough to take over in the back half of the schedule and maybe give us some momemtum heading into the 2020 season with Bailey arriving on campus?

If the coaching staff can bring the same type of effort from the BYU game through the rest of the 20109 season and finish relatively strongly in recruiting this year, then you've gotta just be patient and see what the staff can do. A decent QB has this team at 2-0. JG is never gonna be consistently decent. Can Shrout or Maurer dethrone him and give us a chance in some of our remaining games? Can the staff keep the team playing as hard as they did Saturday even if a bowl game becomes unlikely or impossible? Can we maybe play remaining opponents close enough to sell that we're just a QB (Bailey?) and a playmaker or two on defense away from competing again?

This team still has a ton of question marks from top to bottom. At this point, I'm just interested to see how much the staff can salvage from from this disastrous start. It looks like this team has a few veterans who can play and some hungry youngsters. Can the staff keep them focused throughout the year and down the stretch? Will they be able to keep upperclassmen (who may be looking ahead to the NFL) focused? Will our talented youngsters improve throughout the year? Do the DL, front 7 as a whole, and OL show progress throughout the year?

These are the questions that will make or break Pruitt. He's got a roster that has some good football players, but few or no superstars, and is inherently flawed because of no QB who can threaten defenses. Can he find a way to coach around this and show progress to recruits? Can he grow as a coach and put together a game plan that gives us a chance to steal some wins as the season goes on?

A bowl seems very, very unlikely. Can we still manage to play balls to the wall week in week out and steal a game or two? Can he find a way to get to 5 or 6 wins and make that seem like progress to recruits?

I'm resigned to accepting that we're on the UK path to a rebuild and we're just gonna have to accept and roll with 3-4 years instilling a culture before we can really be a threat to win any meaningful games. But if the staff can continue to recruit like they have since they've been here and get the team to play like they did Saturday night, then we'll really just be a QB away from being a fun team to watch.

Okay, here's where I'm at... Chattanooga is a win Saturday. UAB should be also, that's two wins.

MS State isn't looking very good so far.

KY's QB is out for the year and they weren't good anyway. And, they're KY.

Jake Bentley is also out for the year. I get it, Hilinski looked good against CSU but that's CSU. Let's see what he looks like against Bama this week. We can win that game.

Mizzou is going to be the toughest but I trust our defense to play extremely well after the bye week.

Vandy is Vandy and they look really bad so far this year.

If Chaney can get JG going or get one of the back ups going, we can win all of these games. That's 7 games. I'm not saying it happens for sure, but the team we saw last night, with better QB play can beat all of them. That's would be an amazing recovery of this season to win those games or at least 6 of them.

Anyway, bowl isn't out of the question. We have to get better QB play and this season can be salvaged.

Tbh that's not going to happen. BUT IF it did, ALL is forgiven from me because we will be carrying serious momentum.

I think Mississippi state will be a much harder opponent than South Carolina by the time they get here. They are still breaking in QB. Good coaching staff too.

I just cannot believe the praise from JG during the off-season (NEVER believing practice reports again) Everyone knows he's not a world beater but I think most truly thought he would be an asset to the team.

His dad is great friends with vq guys and feeds them info. It’s how the whole butch lying to him narrative started during the QD/JG battle.

That’s where I am.

JG was better last year than he is now. Maybe he can get back there and we can have some respectable wins
IDK he looked totally lost and like a deer in the headlights Saturday. If he looks that way as a RS JR, then I doubt he's got much more in him than that.

Maybe he can have an on game here and there, but no way he can be counted on to be consistently decent. If our offense is gonna be worth a damn, it's gonna have to be on the backs of the OL and RBs or another QB who catches fire for us.

(All JMO, obviously, and that has been reliably bad the past few years lol)

Commentators were mentioning this last night via Chaney. He has problems recovering from bad plays and it shows. He instantly lost his energy last night after the pick. Looked completely different after that and it just got worse.
I was listening to the Vol network so I didn’t hear the announcers. But thanks for reaffirming what I suspected.

Boys....its looking really good for 5* Jaden Springer in basketball...he cancelled his OV's to Florida and UNC....CB's starting to roll in for us.
I'm already ready to flush the season on football and get it going with basketball. If we get Springer that'll be 3 5 stars in the class and maybe the number one class. Incredible.

Copied from BBall forum on Jaden Springer and TN:

A couple more crystal balls on 247, one from Andrew Slater, a Duke insider who is 24 of 25 this year. Basically the Ryan Callahan of Duke basketball. In other words... TN is now a BBall school.🍊🍊🏀🏀
At least we'll have something.

Not going to lie I don’t think it was the pick that turned his body language around I think it was well before that. I think it was when Pruitt chewed his ass out.

I blame Pruitt a little for that to be honest. I think he needs to know his Qb is fragile. Both deserve some blame imo
