Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

Like I said last night, Pruitt is a dead man walking. Am I advocating he be fired now? Absolutely not. Do I think he survives the season? Yes, I don't think fulmer will give up on him after year two. It's his pick so he bears the responsibility. I don't think he survives past next season. Recruiting will tank. The negative recruiting will only ramp up.

He'll probably be forced to make a couple of staff members sacrificial lambs. Which will again affect recruiting. QB is a huge issue. I don't think Bailey is the answer next year although if he sticks and is an EE he may be the best option next year. All I know is that JG is not the answer and if the light hasn't come on by now, the bulbs burnt out. I can't imagine one of the two backups can be any worse. Maybe the Maryland transfer will be a stopgap until Bailey is ready.

I expect we'll win 2-3 this year tops. I think by the end of the gauntlet, the team will have checked out after several humiliating losses. The Jeremy Pruitt era started the slow decent to failure last week and last night insured it.

Not very realistic, I'd say, to make a QB decision based on the fact Bailey will be here next year. I don't know what the answer is but by all means play and coach to win now. This is why I have no complaints about the calls to convert the 4th downs, btw.

Sadly, the future at QB is likely sitting in Georgia right now.

Sitting JG to take lumps for next year doesn’t really get you any more ready for next year. It’s likely Shrout and Mauer are currently not going to outperform JG also. It’s really a rock and a hard place

I could out perform JG. Play the young kids. Could lose with them as well. Seeing JG live makes him look even worse.

I think we shouldn't be asking the question of will they open up the QB competition this week. They way I think about it is; which backup QB is gonna come into this week and take that starting job from JG? Because shrout and Maurer have to know that if they step up and take the bull by the horns then they can have an opportunity to lead the this team going forward. We were 2-6 before then Tyler Bray finally got his shot under Dooley and after that bray went on a run to close out that season and get us to a bowl game. The same thing can happen this year, although I hope we don’t have to get to 2-6 before we see the switch happen

If there were ever a time to break in a new qb, it’s a season like this where you got senior WRs who know where they’re supposed to be.

I am at the same place after a good night’s sleep. On the OL, there was one series with Jahmir at LT and Wanya at guard where things were starting to roll. I bet when they look at film, they’re gonna be like, “ok, let’s work from this.”

I would rather see that with Trey at RG than ever see Ryan Johnson get blown off the ball on a fourth and short again.

Pruitt even gave him a little punch after that play and grabbed his shirt and chewed his tail. Loved it.

Part of me feels sorry for JG. Dude has been up and beaten down due to O Line the last few years, inconsistency in OC position, etc.

I think we should all at least appreciate him for the lumps he has taken. Is he fixable at this point, I don’t think so and I will respect him for taking a beating over the last few years.

Used to feel that way then think of GT game and the way he acted last night with looks at Pruitt. Still HATE him.

South Carolina's TRUE Freshman played well. They scored 72 points!!!!
Charleston southern is one of the worst FCS teams out there. Next week he’s got a big test against bama. He’s decent though so it’ll at least be interesting to watch.

I wish we would play Maurer against Chat as a warm up and then let him play in the swamp. See what he’s got

Last night is the first time ever I didn’t tune into any postgame call in shows or anything. I usually listen to all Basilio postgame and then podcast the boys at Fox Sports Knoxville the next morning. I can’t even explain my mood last night. I wasn’t mad it was just weird. I guess you call it depleted. I just turned the tv off and went straight to bed. Did anything juicy come out last night other than Urban throwing his pitch out there ?

I honestly think you put Harrison Bailey at QB and just roll with it next year. Let him take his lumps and make mistakes but never waiver from him. I think he can be really good.

QBs have it or they don’t. If you’re good enough to dominate 6A football in Georgia as consistently as he does and the way he does, you’re looking at another kid like Fromm.

It must be frustrating as hell to be Chaney to draw up a game plan and then have to throw it out the window because JG just gets tunnel vision or something.

I'd take 2-6 in a heartbeat!

Rocks sink. Let's go to the hard place.

I didn't see anything juicy about Urban's comment. Raising chatter to improve worth, Gruden style.

He takes prime opportunity and runs when dysfunction starts to show. We're the polar opposite of his m.o.

Also, I'll add this about Jeremy Pruitt. I really don't blame the guy. I think he was put in a no win situation. You don't cut your teeth at a place like Tennessee. He did take the job though so part of its on him. But, who wouldn't take the job if a fortune 100 company called and said you could be CEO when you've been a branch manager in Wichita? He may have committed career sucide by taking this job, as far as being a head coach goes. If he does get fired he'll land on his feet quickly as a DC and he's young so he'll most likely get another shot. My advice would be to start smaller next time. I don't hate the guy, quite the contrary. He's a good old southern boy that most of us can relate to. I'm still pulling for him but have zero confidence he's going to get it done. He was just not ready to be a head coach at the university of Tennessee. JMO
