They say the biggest change is between first and second game. We scored 33 points which is enough to win if your defense shows up. I saw some good play and some massive oooops and whiffs on D. Hoping adjustments will fix whatever was off Saturday.

No we scored 23 and added 7 when the opponent took a breather at the end .

I watched Bo Nix, Auburns true freshman QB pull out the win last night.
It was epic.
If the same JG shows up for BYU, maybe its time to let one of the young guys step in.
You mean like Maurer who matched Nix’s performance at the Elite QB camp and was rated even higher in his vertical passing game? And was forced to create magic with a crappy supporting cast in HS so he’s used to winning while running for his life? Sounds like a plan to me

For those that don’t know Maurer I’ll say this. I’m from his area so I have info and experience that most don’t. Is BYU the best game for him to take his first snaps? Probably Not. Will he be more effective than what we saw out of JG? Yes. Do I think JG should be benched? That depends on CJP and how much he believes in JG to rebound.

The bad about Maurer
- he’s a gunslinger and he’ll make mistakes as such
- he’s fast but he’s not shifty. Don’t expect Dobbs
- he’s not a practice player. He’s a gamer. He needs to learn to put them together.
- he wants to kill a defense with every opportunity he gets. Sometimes he forces it when he should just throw it away.
- needs to learn to slide

The good about Maurer
- he’s a gunslinger. In game action you’ll wonder how he fit the ball in such a small place. (See “The opening” highlights or otherwise)
- give him a lane and he won’t hesitate to show his speed (4.5)
- strong arm and accurate from the pocket
- equally as effective throwing on the run
- very fast through his progressions if he knows the play well.
- has touch
- ability to throw accurately from “off platform”
- extremely hard to defend and his playing style will spread the loaded boxes we see against JG and our running game.

My opinion of NFL comparison is Aaron Rodgers. Exact same playing style.

Strout is next in line, lets see what this young man can do. What do we have to lose with these other guys.
Shrout is not the next in line. No one knows who is next in line. (Except the coaches.) I feel a decision has been made for a while now but it’s a hush hush.

I’m down, but with this D and the lack of a run game.........a young QB is probably going to have problems.

True. But making a change at that position could help solve the attitude problem.

Absolutely, it would, JG has a terrible attitude, all his followers will see this when he ever gets benched. He is just all for JG put up stats with short dink passes, and dives well short of first down, when closest player to him was at least 3 yards from him. I noticed a coach trying to talk to him when JG sitting on the sidelines, JG would not even look at him. Coach was talking away to him and he showed no response at all, not even look in his direction.

He’ll beat them out of loading the box. No doubt

Absolutely he would, other teams have no respect for any deep threat from us, thus they load the box and let him have his little 5 yard dink passes. Put someone in there that is a true deep threat at qb and you will see our running game greatly explode

Once you do it your can't go back. He's at least a known commodity. If the next guy is worse you're stuck.
I don’t think that’ll be an issue. I’m sure he’ll take his lumps learning but worse? I don’t think so. I ask myself had BM taken all the snaps in the spring game with the 2s would I have been willing to bet on the 1s still winning and my answer is no. Maybe others feel differently. Idk

Everyone sounds so stupid posting these backup QB posts...reminds me of when people were pulling for McBride to play, until he got on the field and did jack squat!

And there were plenty calling for Peyton well before he got forced in as a 3rd stringer. How stupid do those people sound now?

Nah, JG is A problem, but not THE problem. Based on the last game, defense is a big, big issue even though we have a defensive guru as a HC. No reason to inject an even more variable into a questionable situation.

I say that as 30 points was enough to beat GSU. Was enough.......was......

Manning was still considered the 11th top freshman in the country. Brian Maurer is a 3 star, who reportedly hasn't looked as good as JT Shorut and has a knack for throwing the ball in harm's way

I heard no such report. I’ve heard they flip flop good days. Need more consistency. Even battle.

Yes he was a 3*. He played for a horrible team. But 40 tds next to 12 ints playing against teams that know he was their only player is odds that no other top rated qb in the country had to face. Doesn’t seem he puts the ball in harms way all that often at all. In fact it looks like nearly a 4/1 ratio.
