I’m guessing they thought they could use this game to figure it out and settle in after this but that’s obvious a grave mistake if they did

Yeah I really think that's a big part of it. The whole team acted like they were in a scrimmage. Trying weird stuff and only playing about 75% speed. Then they looked up and were in a dogfight against a hungry team that started to believe they were better and a QB that was good enough to finish us off. Bad combo.

Yeah, just a few months ago Pruitt said a big mistake last year was not settling players in their positions earlier. He admitted that it prevented the OL from getting in a rhythm and held them back, which hurt the offense. This was in the context of them learning from last year's mistakes-- and it was refreshing to hear. And now they're doing it again. I hope they revisit that.
He’s still learning on the job. He seems to have learned from some of last years mistakes which has been encouraging...but other mistakes he’s still making.

If Tennessee has a season that is so bad that they have to fire Pruitt, Tee Martin would easily be in the top 2 coaches that would be willing to take the job. Not saying Martin would be a good coach, but nobody is touching this place if Pruitt gets fired in year 2.
It’s why Fulmer taking over and grooming T over a 2 or 3 season period is the best bet. Keep Ansley and Chaney

They treated it like a scrimmage. Pruitt said they didn't know what they had going in and wanted to try everybody out and see where they fit. That was Rookie Mistake #1. Rookie Mistake #2 was not correcting it in the second half and getting serious about a team that was whipping you on both sides of the ball while your guys are trying to figure out where to line up in the simplest of packages.

Brian Maurer.dudes team completely sucked a$$ in high school.he won games by himself most of the time.he hates losing.give me his cocky pi$$ed off attitude any day over a 3 down loser that won’t throw past the 10 yard marker.

Did you notice that too? Not once did we complete a “stick route” past the “stick” because JG would under throw it.

It took the offensive coaches at least 10 secs to find Pruitt and get his attention yesterday to ask if he wanted to kick a field goal because he was in the middle of the defensive huddle. He had no clue what was going on in the game at the time.

He probably took his headset off on accident.
He can learn from that kinda stuff. But he better learn from it.

Said this many times, but other programs have risen, fallen, and risen again, some multiple times, in the time that we've done nothing except suck.

Well, GSU took it to a new level. They started a brand new football program, rolled into Neyland, and beat us in the time that we've done nothing except suck.

It would be like your childhood buddy going to prison at age 18 for a decade, getting out after 10 years with no skills, connections, or money, and having a better life/career than you within 6 months.
It's truly impossible to wrap your head around.

Somebody fix this shlt

I understand the hate for Pruitt. But Atleast he said it was on him. The lose was unacceptable but if he can bounce back and get the next 3 wins it is forgivable.

That b
Noticed that as well. Not gonna say the fix was in or anything but it was very odd to say the least
That big of a swing right before kickoff is generally BIG money. Bookmakers generally try to balance their bets going into the game. Why would they be practically begging you to take TN? Well we quickly saw why

Makes me miss the days of b****ing for Dooley or Butch to give younger guys more PT to get them ready for later in the season. At least those guys knew it’s better to ride with a small handful of mediocre guys up front than throw a bunch of guys who aren’t ready in and let them get embarrassed on a nationally televised game.

Well said

Pretty close to kick off 86% of the $ was on state

Beginning to think that if Pruitt wants to save face, he's gonna have to take a chance on one of these "unproven" QBs.

Heard the same tired crap about Nathan Peterman.

Backup QBs are always all Americans until they get thrown to the wolves. It’s totally possible (probably likely) that Shrout and Maurer suck too.

I’m not against throwing them out there for the hell of it, especially if we lose next week and the season is basically over anyway, but expecting high level play out of any of QBs at this point is just asinine.
Listen to me. I dont care if Maeur or Shrout suck. I need someone in that position that has fire. You are vastly underestimating that intangible. Let Mauer learn on the job it literally cannot get any worse.

He said it was on him after pretty much every loss last year too, but we’ve seen nothing but a trend of performance decline.

At this point I just chalk it up to faux self-accountability.

Maybe he's telling the truth and knows he sucks as a head coach, is gonna get fired, and will have a nice landing spot as a DC somewhere coupled with a big buyout. And the fact that he's further destroying Tennessee is okay with him because he's a Bama loyalist.

I think that's where Ron is coming from with kinda hoping we lose out. It's a horrible thing to imagine but going 0-12 leaves absolutely no possibility for Pruitt to return, AND it erases the negative stigma of firing him. I think that holds even if we go 2-10. 3-9 gets iffy, and 4 wins and up means he's 100% here through 2020 at least. Still a terrible record but it would mean we at least won an SEC game or two.
Then comes problem #2, Tennessee already has the highest buyouts in the nation. How are they going to pay someone worthy to come here while paying what I am guessing nearly $20 million in buyouts?
