I hear you. But all coaches are different. There is no specific formula that works for everybody. Think you play to your strengths and let your staff fill in your weaknesses.

And yeah I agree. As a program long term, no expectations should be lowered.

But as a fan? I'm not expecting nearly as much this season as I was 2 days ago. But I'm still gonna watch games.

No one would touch this place. No coach wants to go to a place where they pull the trigger after 2 years or a fan base that canned another head coach. We’re in between a rock and a hard place with that. Fickell or Leach wouldn’t come here and it would have to be a young up and coming coach... like JP

Depends on why he gets fired. If he wins 2 games or less it's an indictment on him. I don't think any coach would be afraid of getting fired for going 2-10, because virtually no head coach is lacking in confidence enough to believe he will go 2-10 or worse at Tennessee. Every coach would view that as unacceptable and worthy of being fired.

Agreed. I think every coaching search resets the bar lower than your previous floor by a game.

The AD should be real concerned that the cash cow that is the UT fanbase and boosters is shifting from angry, to sad, and eventually apathetic. That stadium looked real empty after half time. Eventually the coffers that are floating this thing are gonna run dry if this keeps up.

This is a clinic in how to break the most loyal fanbase in sports.

That was truly disgraceful to watch. I don't have any faith in our QB. I've defended him in the past, but he does nothing that worries defenses. He takes what they give him and never asks for more. We will always come up short with him under center Imo. Not sure the young guys will be better but man it would be fun to see somebody that tested defenses sometimes. Put some pressure on them. Something. I can't think of one play that he made that was impressive yesterday. Even his completions were frustrating. Everything is dumped off and safe giving a guy nowhere to run. The coaching staff has a big job ahead of them. This program is more damaged than any of us likely thought. I think they were probably just as blindsided by the mental errors as anybody. Footballs just bounce weird sometimes. And we had way too many freshman and inexperienced guys out there to expect none. Hopefully having Bituli and maybe Thompson back will help with some of that. Not sure our Dline is good enough for that to matter tho. We need WAY more from that whole unit to even compete in this conference.

We're not firing Pruitt today. There's no reason to turn on him. Lower the expectations for this season for sure. But I'm gonna keep looking for the improvements and see if he can learn from this. He may not have been ready to be the coach here when we hired him. But that doesn't mean he can't get better. He's not doomed to make the same mistakes over and over again. He's shown in the past he will change. Butch wouldn't learn and that was ultimately his downfall. I think Pruitt is different but we'll see. Gonna take time. His seat will now be hot until he can prove that it shouldn't be.

I would like to see him take back over the defensive playcalling honestly. Think that's what he does best and no reason for him to be delegating that. Delegate the other stuff he's less good at.

I have a hard time investing any time at all thinking about this team during the off-season or during most of my week any more. I used to obsess over every detail. But I'm done with that. I'm not going to waste years of my life being grumpy about something I have zero control over. Eff that.

I will keep watching. But I'm not expecting a win against anybody ever again. I'll just take games one at a time and appreciate the wins when they come. Maybe someday we'll have a bunch of them and it will be fun again. Today is not that day.

Tenn is destroying its fanbase. I was just like you. I used to obsess over Tenn football, but the last decade has sucked the love for this program right out of me.

Soon they'll be hanging curtains in the upper decks of Neyland.

We already have lowered them. The second we started saying go hire, so and so, may never win a championship but at least."
And I don't disagree, I would take any success at this point also. Just pointing out we're already pining for a level that we once would have demanded be fired.

How is it possible that year after year we get pushed around by an fcs/lower tier fbs school? What other SEC school has this issue? None that I can think of.

Also, year after fkn year no matter the coach saying they can't get the defense lined up. What did you do during fall camp?? LMAO.

1. No it isn’t. But if we’d stuck with Worley going into that one, we’d probably have been in position to win that game. Peterman’s inexperience and turnovers killed any chance in that game. There’s a parallel to be made heading into a must win game this week.
2. Yes, they are different people. Both have pretty similar HS film though, and Peterman had the benefit of a RS and an OL full of NFL players going for him.

4. This is based on what? A few nice plays against our second team defense in the spring game that he sprinkled in between his 2 INTs?
5. No argument there. But expecting a true freshman to come in and be better in every way is asking too much. Dude hasn’t even won the backup spot yet! You’re calling for the backup’s backup to play.

I think that's where Ron is coming from with kinda hoping we lose out. It's a horrible thing to imagine but going 0-12 leaves absolutely no possibility for Pruitt to return, AND it erases the negative stigma of firing him. I think that holds even if we go 2-10. 3-9 gets iffy, and 4 wins and up means he's 100% here through 2020 at least. Still a terrible record but it would mean we at least won an SEC game or two.

Something not mentioned but is worth at least raising your eyebrows about. If anyone saw my post yesterday we saw a big drop in the betting line yesterday morning around 10. There was a sizable bet placed on Ga State

I find it sad to even consider but that gambler knew something and that game was played in a way that brings up suspensions
