So I was invited and went to the Clemson game last night. It was a lot of fun but doesn’t hold a candle to Neyland. Lawrence was not very good. He made some great throws but he was very inconsistent and actually looked human. Tech was consistently playing 2 high safeties so it makes sense that Etienne was running wild. They kept getting gashed each time down. The long throw to Tee was a horrible ball from TL.

Excited for our season to start. Hopeful that JG can ball out with time from the offensive line

Good morning RF friends. Tomorrow it's "Football time in Tennessee!"

Today is surgery day for my better half, my wife. A little over a year ago she had hip replacement surgery and it went really well. It went so well she's decided it's time for the other hip. So today she receives her new wonder woman hip.

So, any thoughts and prayers her way would be appreciated. Although fairly routine, anytime one goes under the knife it carries some risk so we take nothing for granted. Pray for me too as it's my job to make sure she makes it home and stays as comfortable as possible over the next few days.
Done.

Last nights BYU game doesn’t change much imo. Without the two pic 6s that’s an even game. I think we win but it isn’t going to be easy
I slightly agree because Utah might actually be good which skews the result a little bit.

But BYU didn’t show the toughness we’re accustomed to seeing from them. My biggest fear was always that they’d come punch us in the mouth and it might stagger us a little bit. Didn’t look like they had it in them last night.

I don't know. When a team usually loses there first game of the season, it has a negative impact on their morale by a lot. If they come into Neyland all down and out, it'll be over by halftime. I mean I guess they could also come into Neyland all fired up from getting beat by 18.

1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.

3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

I thought they played very tough on D. That side of the ball impressed me

Utah looked really slow outside of Moss. That BYU DL was getting minimal push and still held them to 9 points in the first half. I didn't watch any of the second half because I have work today, but from what I saw neither team scares me. And Utah is not #14 in the country. Yeah the score may say "Great win!" but that team looked slow and unimpressive. 14 points came from INT's-turned-to-TD's so that brings the actual offensive score to 16-12. Not the greatest look, but the best teams maximize potential and Utah did...albeit to a QB that looked like a deer in the headlights.

Watched the Utah vs BYU game into the 4th quarter last night, two things that stuck out to me.

1. BYU was TERRIBLE at stopping the run, they were getting gashed all night. And mind you Utah had zero threat of a passing attack, undersized and thin offensive line too. Still gashing BYU with the run (they knew was coming). As a team Utah averaged 5.5 YPC for nearly 300 yards and watching it live I'm surprised it wasn't higher.

2. BYU couldn't run, like that game was a 1 score game until Utah got separation in the 4th quarter and BYU just wasn't able to move the ball on the ground at all. 26 of their 92 rushing yards came on a QB scramble where the Utah secondary had their backs turned in man and Wilson just took advantage.

I think BYU will play a strong first half here, but expect them to fade as the game goes on. Assuming our OL gets protection, I think JG and company could have a huge night through the air. Utah had quite a few wide upon guys, I recall one 3rd down (obvious passing down) situation where a Utah receiver was wide open and dropped an easy catch.
