Official Statement from Jeremy Pruitt on Thompson

Perfect example.......

Tennessee Vols' Von Pearson will not face charges after rape investigation

They suspended him before he was even charged. This really needs to be well thought out on the school's side before they decide if they want to try and boot him or not.

The thing is, certain words and phrases at the right time will always have an emotional, quick trigger response. College campuses are such a powder keg of emotion, entitlement and poorly thought out causes that they almost always elicit a response no matter the repercussions. Title IX cases are the most glaringly obvious examples of hearsay or he said she said altering someone’s life forever.

How long could this process play out? A couple weeks? The whole season?
Hope it's not like AJ, they lied about him and it drug out till he was done either way. The girls should have gotten into trouble for lying, period. If he said that it's one thing, but the witnesses better be damned sure before they destroy somebody over a heat of the moment argument. What Thompson did was stupid, but I don't want any kid to get his life thrown away over one stupid moment, especially when he didn't assault her or anybody except a gate which he should have to account for in some fashion. I guess what I am saying is we need to wait on the investigation but I hope it moves and don't drag for everyones sake. The Florida's of the world always seem to wrap these things up quickly one way or the other. GBO!

That isn't good.
Good, bad or indifferent it has to happen. In today's society it must play out that someone is guilty until proven innocent, especially involving DA (even if misdemeanor). The backlash would be astronomical if he were not suspended.

Actually, we live in a society where kids are so self centered and entitled that they think its OK to commit mass shooting cause you turned off their X-Box without permission.
True, but not the issue at hand. The MeToo movement has made any questionable involving a situation involving a male and a female (regardless of Gender Identification) automatically a capital offense until rock solid evidence if proven otherwise. A touch on the arm, even unintentional, or a friendly peck on the cheek can land you in jail with a ruined reputation. An actual verbal argument can send you to the electric chair.

the shooting thing is much more serious than the girlfriend thing and I would imagine caught their attention and the attention of the university.

Everyone keeps mentioning the "shoot up the school" comment that may or may not have been made but as far as I know he wasn't charged with making any kind of terroristic threat. If he wasn't charged it should be a non factor. It usually means there was not enough evidence to support the claim. I would be shocked if anything came out of this other than Thompson possibly being ordered to take some anger management classes.

Let it play out? It only took 4 years to allow it to play out against AJ Johnson. The Athletic Department needs to step forward and make a decision and act on it.

Article I just read per Bleacher Report has the journalist predicting a year suspension and anger management before reinstatement. If true that blows.

Pruitt is right (and needs) to take immediate and clear disciplinary steps here. He and his staff have the ability to send a clear message to the team that these situations need to be handled with maturity. Ripping a gate up and threatening to slap a woman (perhaps "shoot this place up") is the first red-flag this young man needs some help. Hopefully this situation leads to preventing someone actually getting hurt and shows a path to handling oneself appropriately in stressful situations.

The police have to ensure this doesn't escalate so I believe the arrest was the best thing for both parties. If actual charges push to court w/o a plea or community service that would, with the few facts we actually have, be overly harsh. Get the kid help and make him work with abuse victims so he can see the impact of his threats carried out. If that doesn't wake him up to the consequences of his threats then he's going to have a tough life I'm afraid.

Hope everyone comes out of this situation better than they went in.
