Official Statement from Jeremy Pruitt on Thompson

That is a ridiculous conclusion. He didn't physically assault anyone and he wasn't waving a gun around while threatening to "shoot up the school." This is pretty minor and he will, unfortunately, miss a game or three but as long as he keeps his nose clean we will forget all about it before seasons end.

After his September 3 court date, the school will probably make the decision (if there’s proof he really said the shoot up school thing). They might accept a private (and even a public) apology and not suspend him from school. He should be lawyering up now. A lucrative pro career might depend on it...apologies to mojo if that’s too dramatic.

Making comments about shooting up a school is never a laughing matter and shouldn’t be ignored.

Sure, they’re just words now but can easily turn into legitimate action when you least expect it.

Really, Pruitt had no other choice here other than to suspend him.

Don't oversimplify this. Everyone makes mistakes, I get it, but you can't threaten to shoot up a school and expect ZERO consequences.

There was only one said witness who supposedly heard the "Shoot up school"... if the girl who he was arguing with didn't hear it....then it probably didn't happen.

Has he admitted to saying that? Last I heard, it was one witness saying they heard that...likely through the walls of their dorm room. Maybe he did say it, but there's nothing concrete yet...so maybe it doesn't help having so many folks talking about it as if it was an absolute fact.

Sounds like he's got a temper and got into a loud argument and stupidly did some minor property damage. The rest comes down to what a couple witnesses may have heard coming from the stairwell likely through the wall or from a distance. Even if he said those things, it probably doesn't warrant more than sitting a couple of games and extra punishment off the field.

I suspect Pruitt will make the right call that fits the evidence. If it's borderline, I'd expect he's back by FL...if worse, and deserves to be gone, then he probably will be. Pruitt building a program, and can't have something egregious out there for recruiting. Land mine, for sure, and handled first wave in the right way.

IMO this is all about the "Shoot up the School" comment. If the witnesses had not reported this threat, BT would probably be playing this weekend. The misdemeanor assault charges will probably be dropped pretty soon.

BT's fate will come down to the school's internal investigation when they interview the witnesses. They will ask them if they fear that BT may actually be a danger to them if he remains on campus. Their answers to this question will determine if he remains at UT.

Allegedly, haven’t seen anything to prove he said that ... he will he back by BYU unless something else surfaces

Perfect comments. Saves face in two ways. Puts light on how the school holds its athletes and a second light on them ensuring the safety of all students. While also giving them room to conduct everything and at the end if nothing is viable they can state that they took all measures to ensure student safety etc.

Didn't you say yesterday that Pruitt should stay out of it and let the PR people handle it?

If he threatened to shoot up the school and that is proven by several witnesses, it doesn't matter if he does it or not, the temperament of any school's administration is to take those type threats seriously regardless of what scenario it was stated in. I do not know how any one on here can say hes gone or state that this is minor. He is suspended indefinitely and that is all Pruitt can do at this time until all information has been gathered and defined. Pruitt is going to be slaughtered in the court of public opinion regardless of what he does, but the blame on this should all be on the player. These type incidents can really affect whether a player can get into the NFL or not. I hope Thompson gets his head straight and realizes the repercussions of what he did and said. If there are any false allegations, then the people who made those claims need to be held accountable. We will have to see how this plays out, but on the surface, does not look good.

sad to hear about this on the heels of a new season, every off season of the summer we hear of off-field
issues at some College program or another that results in dismissal or suspension. But as the saying goes
"it's next man up" to step in a fill the position

From a legal perspective ,
domestic assault is the threat of imminent physical harm while battery is the infliction of physical harm to someone . So yes , he is guilty of domestic assault if he indeed physically threatened her .

That isn't good.
Actually it’s the best given the situation. Waiting to get all the details then probably will be evaluated further. You don’t want to put other students at risk if he really is a threat. You don’t want to ruin his life if this was stupid mistake either. In either case, evaluation is the best course of action to help him and protect others.

Let the process run its course. He will be back before the Florida game.
