In the Fall of 1975, this Yank from Jersey landed at Hess Hall for a fun and memorable 4 years. Never missed a home game and traveled to some road games including Columbia, Lexington and Bham (shook hands w/the Bear even). I love Tennessee Football and feel that Coach Pruitt is the real deal. It's a marathon, not a sprint in the rebuilding world of college football but, there is a definitive expiration date of 3-5 years in big time programs if one does not reach lofty expectations.

Below is a list of all our season records since my first home game at Neyland vs the Maryland Terps on 9/13/75. I share this because the stats threw me off a bit. I, like all on VN, hope CJP can return the Orange to an annual powerhouse but was a bit surprised by the following stats:

341 Wins/186 Losses/8 Ties
.637 Winning % (corrected)
Average Annual Wins since 1975 = 7.75
Average Annual Losses since 1975 = 4.24
7 Head Coaches
18-13 Bowl Record in 44 years

We've had a number of hard to endure years, bunch of mediocre seasons, some very good years and, a couple of excellent years. Unfortunately, the hard to endure years have been plentiful as of late, so it's not surprising our fading memories are grasping to hold onto the glory years of past. And while I don't want to settle for 7.75 wins, one of those seasons right now, or better, is just what the doctor ordered.

Thank you again Coach Pruitt for giving your all to bring back the magic to Knoxville.!! Go Big Orange!

A food truck used to park outside Hess 3-4 nights a week. You could get a 3 dogs with chili and onions for $1.10. A quick run down to the convenient store for a .89 cent quart of Schlitz and you had a meal to watch Johnny Carson with.

When everything got too quiet in Hess ... you could just holler out into courtyard ... War Eagle!!!! Always evoked a colorful response.

Yes, I still remember Hess Hall from my freshman year 67-68 (9-1 regular season Doug Dickey SEC Champs, lost Orange Bowl to Oklahoma 26-24, finished #2). Used to go down the hall from the community bathrooms and pass an open door and end up shooting the bull with a bunch of guys on the floor till late at night, probably why the grades were not as high as they should have been. Tells you how long Hess Hall has been there, and it wasn't that new then.

Hess Hall is classic! We snuck a keg on the 5th floor. What is funny everybody in the dorm knew it but nobody said anything about it!
Go Vols!!!

Saw a video yesterday of that Arkansas game in 1998, after the turnover with about a minute left, what did we do? Give the ball to Travis Henry about 5 times and let him get in the end zone. That’s UT football at its greatest. We knew what was coming, so did they, but no one could stop it. Recent history would suggest in that same situation, you pass the ball about every down.

We called Hess Hall "The Zoo" in '71.

I lived on 7th floor courtyard side in 71. No air conditioning and no carpeting. Naked girls tho. Cops locked us in one night because everyone on courtyard side started screaming out their windows. It was near finals time. One guy wanted to show us what he learned in ROTC. He went on the roof after drinking too much and demonstrated throwing a hand grenade using beer mugs. He mananged to hit the frat house across the street. Ah good times.
