WACO, Texas – The 2018-19 Baylor women’s basketball team received a nomination for “Best Team” for the 2019 ESPY Awards, and the team is headed to Los Angeles Wednesday for annual sports awards ceremony put on by ESPN.

A champions-only category this season, Baylor is up against the MLB’s Boston Red Sox, NCAA Football’s Clemson Tigers, the NFL’s New England Patriots, the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, NCAA Men’s Basketball’s Virginia Cavaliers and the United States Women’s National Soccer Team.

The ESPYs take place Wednesday at 7 p.m. CDT on ESPN and actor/comedian Tracy Morgan will serve as host at the Microsoft Center.
The team is expected to take part in the red-carpet event and the ESPYs after party hosted by hip hop artist 2 Chains.

Mulkey, staff members and all players from the 2018-19 team with the exception of Queen Egbo and Jackson will be in attendance. Egbo is with Team USA training for the 2019 FIBA 19U Championships later this month and Jackson, a guard for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky has a schedule conflict.

Team USA won as expected (and as they should have) but the Lady Bears were looking good.

I mean besides her 3pt shooting and some nice flashy passes every now and then , what else did she think she could do or contribute ?
I think she had a lot of leadership skills and she played the point very well for Iowa State. She didn't score a lot but she was a very good facilitator. She also played good defense. Holly recruited well, however, her players seem to hit a wall and never get any better. During Holly's tenture there was a lot of untapped potential.

I’m not sure how Te’a is going to perform for Baylor this last season. She certainly doesn’t appear to be focused on basketball and working to improve her game to make herself attractive to WNBA and international teams. She’s already a month behind her teammates in offseason workouts. Her offseason focus has been Dwight Howard. Will be interesting if she can pull herself away from him enough over the next 4 months to do the things she needs to be an effective part of a deep BU roster next season.

From Sicem365 WBB Forum:

Welcome to Baylor Te'a Cooper - This is good news for everyone - Baylor WBB, Te'a, Kim and Baylor - talked to her - stop worrying people she is good people and she going to fit in just fine - in fact she already has with her new teammates - she has been busting at the seams to tell someone/everyone for several days now.

Even better news coming - Erin's mother showed me a photo of Erin showing her release papers from Tech.
She is on her way too.

Per the Baylor fan forum Cooper didn't enroll for Summer Session 1 but has been in Waco for awhile now. She's now enrolled and Summer Session II started today...thus the announcement per NCAA rules.

Not sure if Erin DeGrate enrolled for Summer II or if she's coming in the fall. Heard she has been working like a demon to lose weight and get in shape, though.

Cooper coupled with Mulkey should provide enough drama that Baylor can forsake the ESPYs next year and contend for an Academy Award. Watch the sideline and we might witness a Best Picture nomination or the Oscar for Best Sound Editing.
