2020 Presidential Race

Bernie and Warren are really the only far left (as far as American politics are concerned) candidates. Most everyone else that stands a chance at the nomination in center-left.

I think your "center-left" covers a lot of ground on the Luther continuum, and I have a feeling "right" is some never land to the right of your center, and center slid a long way to the left of where it used to be.

They all are pandering, and it is hilarious to watch. You really have to look at their records.

Of course they are to some degree. For instance illegal immigration is a problem and needs serious overhauling. Most rational people believe this. Cops shooting a criminal and automatically being condemned because the crook was a certain color is also a problem. Or maybe crime and lawlessness is the problem but in swoops (enter lib name) to race bait and condemn law enforcement instead of tackling the REAL problem.

US Politics is on average center right. The centrists in the 2020 election are actually right wingers in Europe for example. The farthest left is Bernie Sanders obviously, but he would be only center-left in Europe.

I have never seen so much Pandering in an election, and it's only the beginning.

We aren't Europe, and I certainly hope we never get that way. Center is a matter of perspective in the first place, and it's been drifting left on the US political spectrum for a long time.

This is actually kind of a myth.

The Republicans really haven't moved much at all, but the Democrats have went left... I think this is actually a good thing. We do not need two Republican Parties. I posted earlier in this thread on how Obama was basically another Bush. We have not had an actual lefty as president since Eisenhower.

Kamala and Beto were 93, Pete and Tulsi were 91 for me. Delaney 88

That's an interesting combination. You value antiwar more than anything else?

I value social issues more than anything else. Antiwar close second.

Kamala and Beto make even less sense as 1 and 2 because of their records. I put Antiwar above everything else, and Deregulation is second. I only had one candidate above 90% in the last 20 years which was Ron Paul.

That's just how it came out for me. Kirsten and Bernie were much higher on the ISideWith than I'd go with. Right now, it is Pete or Kamala for me. Well, Pete honestly. But I'm trying to wait and stay open to all candidates.
All I know for sure is I will never vote for Trump. Period.

I get the Pete thing, but I don't understand how anyone can support Kamala. I legitimately think Kamala is a fast track to authoritarianism.

Kamala isn't all that different from other Dems. Not sure why you would think she had authoritarian tendencies.

She has either wanted to ban or exert state control over: private health insurance, your car, affordable energy, political speech, your guns and for-profit colleges. She was also known for abusing her power as a prosecutor.

The second article goes deep into her prosecutor record.

Man, Justin Amash is the new golden boy of VolNation the last few days lol.
Agreed that no one will supplant Trump running as a Republican, the Red Hats are too loyal. I kind of hope Amash runs as an Independent/Libertarian. He'll pull votes from Trump, so hopefully we will get a center left President out of it.
He wont pull any votes

Not just the last couple days. His name has come up pretty regularly as a guy some of us dont mind/actually like.
Yall are right that he wont win over any of the socialists, from either party. But for a lot of people that's not what they want. He also wont have the stink of Trump on him for those who fetish about that topic.

Since we became a two party system, independents and third parties have simply stripped votes from the party closest in identity and delivered it to the other party. The surest way to flip the presidency back to the Dems is to run a conservative independent or third party candidate. If we had coalitions like Parliamentary systems it could turn out differently, but we don't.
Only because people will vote for two evils. Dont put your name behind people you dont actually want running this country.

did a search and I was posting about him on VN in 2013. He was leading the TP/small govt/freedom charge for a while until that message got corrupted by coattail riders. Now he's being squeezed by the system. Surprised he lasted this long honestly. Tea party sure ain't what it used to be

Kamala went after Biden since he was at the top of the list of candidates at the time. If she takes over the top spot, the remaining candidates will take that opportunity to take her down as well. Once that happens, her donations will begin to decline, limiting her engagements and fundraising opportunities. IMO, she'll be one of the next 5 to withdraw from the race.

Trump won’t lose a Republican primary, and he won’t suffer any serious damage from some nobody whimpering about decency. If Republicans want to stop him, they need someone (one person - no more, no less) willing to take serious shots at Trump in the primaries (and willing to suffer the inevitable blowback from the MAGA cult). Then, they need someone like Justin Amash to run as an independent in the general to provide a hard conservative option to siphon off Republicans and Independents without appealing to anyone on the left.

So you want Amash to help the Dems take the White House?
