2020 Presidential Race

If he actually runs, and runs on his principles, which I believe he will. I will vote for him. He will actually get me to vote for the first time. Amash that is

I'll admit that I really know nothing about Amash except that several posters like the fact that he has good intentions and isn't Trump. To me that's the problem; the GOP didn't want to get down and dirty and go into the hog trough with the Dims. McCain and especially Romney were just absurdly stupid ideas ... I don't think most Republicans even liked a stuffed shirt like Romney. The point is we are at a time of political extremism, and moderation is simply capitulation ... appeasement. There will be a time for a decent GOP contingent (at least I certainly hope so), but this isn't it. Right now any decent non-Dim is going to be fodder like the nice kid who has his lunch or lunch money taken every day at school by the Dim bullies. The only candidates for the GOP at this time have to be junkyard dogs ... just to prove to the radical left that somebody can beat them at their game.

This is when you recognize that Butch Jones types trying to play CUSA or AAC or whatever secondary conference football in the SEC is a loser. You either play the no holds barred nasty politics of the Dims or go home.

Rowdy soccer fans broke out into a 'F*** Trump' chant and raised their middle fingers during a live Fox News broadcast from a bar in France after the US Women's National Team defeated the Netherlands in the FIFA Women's World Cup final on Sunday.

Guess they don’t realize they could be chanting it in German if not for the USA.

Amash is a joke and a snake.

He will be exposed.

Lol no. The only reason it works is because both sides are neck deep in the extremism. A moderate candidate on either side wins the general election easily. Just look to 2016. Anyone but Hilary or Trump would have crushed the other. Higher voting percentages for third/non party candidates. There is a major middle in this country being ignored and lied to saying they have to vote one party or the other.

Amash is actually pro Constitution. Not like people think Trump is, or other Rs are. He actually walks the walk. No way an actually principled candidate wins either parties nomination so he is off on his own. And as someone who has railed against the parties I applaud it.

If you dont like the direction the nation is headed you cant keep voting for the same two parties that have ruined it. And they both have. And they are both filled with hypocrites and liars. Give me Amash all day long. He is also one of the few I think that would even attempt to reign in the budget.

Also welcome to the party you pledge to hate. It's so strange to me that people just double down on this nonsense.

I would love to see the things Amash would run on. He would kill the policy side of things and could bring a lot of support from both sides.

Only way to avoid the extremism you pledge to hate is to not vote for it. Cant keep doubling down. Cant keep doing the same thing.

Depending on what you want from this country I would say Trump and Obama were both Butch Jones level presidents. Run their mouths a lot but undelivered on results. Amash at least grew up in the SEC of what this country should be. And actually practices it. Which gives him a huge leg up

As opposed to?

He's not a party politician. He is exactly what we need. Unless you got something more than your typical "you will see" get out with that nonsense. Go check his voting records. Far more conservative than anyone on the ballot.

While I agree with you on many points, my main point is you that don't show up at a gunfight with a knife. If you don't control the agenda, then you damn well better be ready to play the game into which you are forced. This isn't a time for nice guys.

No. It's time to get back to your roots. You dont play the other guys game. You dont out Bama, Bama. That gets you beat. You go up tempo, spread them out and make them play a type of game they dont want to. Make these parties play off of policy. They cant. Both sides are up to their eyeballs in identity politics.

Just look at voting trends, people sliding away on both sides. Terrible voter turnout. More of the same and doubling down doesnt get you anywhere. Going back to what this country should be will win a lot of people.

What makes you think Amash would be a "nice guy" pushover? People might be confused about Amash because he's one of the very few principled members on Congress.

I challenge anyone to read his thoughts on leaving and disagree with them.
I like Amash's reference to George Washington's farewell address. Washington is rather prophetic admonishing the separation into parties with this paragraph:
“It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.”

I honestly think people literally dont know how to handle a third party candidate. They are too stuck in their ways and cant compute anyone who doesnt put party in front of country.

I'm hoping Amash could turn out to be a true blue statesman. Right now, because he is in politics, I have a lot of doubts.

Indeed. It was kinda scary reading that from 200+ years ago. The FF were way ahead of the game. Way ahead.

There's no reason to think it will ever change either. I believe we're destined to continue down this path until it all goes off the tracks.

I agree with you sentiment, but this is a pipe dream at best. The country will never be what it should be.

We're too far down the hole of partisanship to ever get out IMO.

I tend to be pessimistic in our politicians and politics in general. But if a man like Amash can win the hearts and minds of the constituents, he can accomplish many things. It is such a big 'if" though. He would have a helluva a struggle from candidate through governance.

That's what they want you to think. It can change with one single voting season. 1 shock to the political system and suddenly people dont feel like they can only vote for two parties.

Just watch either side push the story of their winner. They are trying to influence votes for their winner, or at least away from any challenger. Many people are like you, why vote for what's perceived as a loser? Because you are tired of the same old same old. Try something new. 6% of this country are already voting non party. Get that up to 20% and you have disrupted the system. Considering the total votes only represent 60% of all voters there is a big demographic not being hit that would easily get a candidate into that 20% range. Or even higher.

If nothing else you are letting your party know you dont like what they are doing, and you wont keep enabling their bad behavior.
