Ha ha - yeah, next to no one likes my idea. Most prefer expanding the playoff to eight teams. I think that might be a little more entertaining, but it makes the problem I've raised worse. An upstart Boise State type team could win round 1 of the playoffs against at top 5 opponent in a major upset running trick plays, but no way they have the horses to win two more games in two weeks against Top 5 opponents. Bama, Georgia and Clemson have the talent to get through that grind right now. Possibly Ohio State. LSU and Texas A&M might be close. I honestly can't think of anyone else who is remotely close, though. ....We're a long, long ways away...
More opportunities for more teams to win a NC is never “worse”. Clemson won it’s second championship in this system and is just now establishing itself as an annual top 10 recruiting program...much less top 5 like your other examples. As long as Auburn had two undefeated seasons in which they didn’t even sniff a NC game, your good ole day lovefest is debunked.

I enjoy CFB don’t get me wrong. But I think the playoff era is starting to kill the excitement. Only three or four teams have the depth and talent to win in any given year, and the committee will find them and stick them in over teams that have achieved more on the field. Those same teams get all the good recruits in the offseason and then it’s repeat.

I’d rather pull my eyes out with a spoon than watch another Clemson-Bama playoff rematch. Yawn!
The playoffs aren't killing it imo, Bama and Clemson are.

We either need oversight that doesn't turn a blind eye or we need more kids that are willing to step up to challenge.
Most likely a combination.

I love college football and watch every game possible. But you're right about the playoffs ruining it. Recruits want to go to the playoffs so the best go to the teams with the best shot. Right now that is Clemson (easy), AL and GA (win SEC championship and go or possibly go anyway), OU (just beat Texas) and OSU (a good shot). I'd rather watch the bowl games. When people stop watching the playoffs they will try to change it, but those teams will be so stacked it will it will take a lot of recruiting cycles to overcome.

Yep - you clarified my point. This is all I'm saying. And I forgot about OU. They have a lot of talent, although they don't play defense so until they do, I don't consider them a serious competitor.

It would be Clemson and Bama every year...so let’s fix it. 😉

Wes Rucker being a cuck for Rapinoe is the most Wes Rucker thing I've ever seen. 😂

Clemson's program caught fire right in time for the playoff system, and the playoff system will sustain them. Bama's run wouldn't have last this long without the playoff in my view. They'd have missed some NC games under the old system, and would have lost luster with recruits.

We'll see over the long haul. But I'm going to guess we'll be bored with the same few teams competing for championships in the playoff era for a long time to come.

So go back to the same system where it would be the same...only with background noise clamoring for playoffs? 🤨

I'm honestly not sure how you concluded that based on what I wrote.
So yer saying that giving more teams a chance to play the playoffs somehow means even less teams will have a chance to win a title? Yer logic seems flawed.

8 teams would at least give a little variety, and maybe have star recruits willing to play for a few more teams. Recruits on the west coast are wanting to go east because they don't think a west coast team has a shot at making the playoffs.

Three straight weekends of playing top 10ish opponents, after playing a full regular season. I think there are very few programs that can recruit and develop the talent and the depth for that grind. So, yes, I think it would mean fewer programs winning the title. Certainly we will never see BYU, Washington, and Georgia Tech among those teams, to name a few.

I think he is saying that people thought giving four teams instead of two a chance to play for the title would make it better, but it has only led to it being the same 4 to 6 teams without much hope of that changing because all of the best recruits are going to the same 4 to 6 teams so they can play in the playoffs.

It’s possible. But I suspect most of the early rounds of the playoff would end in double digit blowouts, much like the first round today. Not sure recruits get jazzed about that.
