More likely just the last of the anesthesia clearing his system. Just as someone who’s had a few too many glasses is more likely to snore that night. The part of the brain that controls respiration is a bit too mellow.

They’ve got so many monitors on surgical ICU patients that it looks like a small launch to the moon. And I’m sure he has a nasal cannula (the thing with prongs in the nostrils delivering O2.)

I meant to mention this, but the doc yesterday told us that our dad would still likely be drowsy yesterday as he still had anesthesia in him. But when he was sleeping yesterday afternoon he wasn't snoring, so your explanation seems right. :)
