That’s very true. But do you think that standard is fair? Going to put a lot of pressure on this coming team...

Maybe I’m remembering incorrectly but I believe most people on the board felt UT was a tourney team going into the 17-18 season and we thought it was insane they were preseason 13th in the SEC. That team also returned like their top 8/10 contributors

Yup. Putting your eggs in that basket isn’t wise.
Barnes better hope Turner and Bowden can rise to a new level.
This team is woefully thin at guard and HUGE questions in the post.
Transfer that may or may not be eligible.
A player who was supposedly going to be pushed out and has failed 100 drug tests.
And, Fulk.

Well fans are generally optimistic, and I think anyone who watched them play knew they’d be a lot better than 13th, I think most people were just hoping we’d make the tournament

I’ve made no secret that there’s tons of questions on the roster, but this is a roster fully assembled by Barnes...the guy who just put together the best 2 year run in program history, so forgive me if I am a little skeptical that he sat back and assembled a team that can’t even get a CBI invite.

Best two year run in the regular season only. And this roster is simply not that good. Two transfers, one ineligible and the other who knows. We do know that his prior team made no effort to keep Plav even thought they were woefully thin in the front court. But the truth about the good, the bad and the ugly of this roster will be on full display soon enough. Here's to hoping that Pruitt can get the Vols to 8 regular season wins.

Has anyone ever considered that maybe Barnes just got lucky with the roster he’s had the last few years? We know from his time at Texas that he generally didn’t build his roster that way.

I see we didnt get KB and now the trash Barnes crowd is out. Typical Vol Nation
I think there are reasons to be concerned. Actions speak louder than words and Coach Barnes’ actions the last few months don’t make him seem comfortable with what he has. Recently Barnes tried to leave for UCLA, he looked at bringing a 2019 post in with a full roster, and he tried to get a grad transfer two weeks before scholarships are guaranteed.

I think Bone, Turner, and Williams were all players we were excited to get. I know I was much more hopeful with them, than some of the others he’s recruited over the last couple of years/ I think he got very lucky with Admiral (turtle recruit) and with Bowden.
James has been the only player I’ve been overly impressed with coming out of HS since those three.

I thought Kent was a joke. Johnson wasn’t an impressive recruit. Alexander did Ok, but was a project they had to take because they couldn’t get a more ready player. Ponz was interesting but I never looked at him like I did the three above. Fulk seemed like filler. Walker looked to have potential but nothing that would make you take notice. Burns looked to be a good get and an actual move by the staff.

Straight up recruiting, they get beat. 2020? No one is signed. Show me some signatures.

Barnes would not be here if he didn't want to be here. Every coach after any success will look at their options. Bruce flirted with Memphis. Fulmer looked around CRB's flaw was that he was too open about what he was doing. He could have just said "no comment". Instead he was upfront about what had occurred. Not making some sort of statement could have turned off future signees. It was actually pretty well played by pointing out UCLA's history and how much of an opportunity that particular job was. Playing the Wooden card was well crafted.

Bruce had as much a shot at the Memphis gig as I did.

You mean the guy we backed off of and decided wasn't a take after his visit?
I’m sure Barnes told you that personally.

Offer scholly with full roster in the 11th hour?
Then a visit?
Fishy? Yup. I think they thought they were getting KB and Bilau wouldn’t wait to be plan B. Greg Marshall knows b-ball and we’ll see. Bilau is more physically ready than Burns.

So, just after posting Burns was a good get, u follow that up with Bilau is more physically ready than Burns, despite Burns having a full year in a college weight program. Really no way to know until they play next year, I guess. But, I disagree. Plus nobody has signed yet in the '20 class any where, which includes blue bloods like Duke and Kentucky, because they can't yet. Unless, the wheels completely fall off, the '20 class WILL have Walker, Keon and at least a top 50 PG and probably another top 50 big man, PJ Hall, imo. The '20 recruiting class will be the greatest in Tennessee history, mark it down, save this post, whatever, I'm guaranteeing it

That guarantee makes me feel all warm inside.

So nothing yet coming from Blackshear despite several Twitter journalists saying the decision was made and an announcement will be coming in a few hours?
