The Kerry Blackshear Thread

Obviously you’ve never watched him play

I have too. He can shoot, but I don’t see guard skills for an SEC guy. Doesn’t mean he won’t be a player here, but he’s not going to be breaking down guys off the dribble or leading fast breaks or hitting pull up jumpers.

I do think much of the reaction to missing on Blackshear is overwrought. It fell into our lap in the first place. But just magnified the need we have down there. Maybe he’s found some more diamonds in the rough, but it’s definitely a huge uncertainty.
I’ve made no secret that there’s tons of questions on the roster, but this is a roster fully assembled by Barnes...the guy who just put together the best 2 year run in program history, so forgive me if I am a little skeptical that he sat back and assembled a team that can’t even get a CBI invite.

I 110% feel you will see him taking opposing 4’s off the dribble, I’ll bookmark this post.

That’s perfectly fine...until Turner makes a full recovery from shoulder surgery I’m assuming he’s also out for the year...cancel the season.

Ah yes the whole cancel the season sarcasm any time somebody has concerns for the season when you don’t have anything meaningful to contribute.

And Barnes decided to use two scholarships on guys who can’t play this year knowing he had a shaky front court.

Would it have been better to have used them on a freshman and a Lew Evans level grad transfer? The 2 that were signed will make significant contributions if only by pushing the regulars really hard in practice. Those are 2 pretty good guys to be taking the 12th and 13th scholarships. Maybe CRB actually knows what he's doing.

Sounds like a lot of churlish, butt hurt little league parents in here who have to find blame for losing a game. You gonna blame Barnes for every recruit who goes elsewhere? Good grief.

I think Barnes will be blamed when we’re NIT bound and folks realize he took 2 years off in recruiting.

This team is going to be lucky to make the NCAA, but I’d be disappointed with a CBI invite

Lew Evans level? No. But what about more ready freshman that could contribute this year? Or maybe a scholarship on a transfer last year?

Well long term who knows how things turn out. Most are worried about next season. I think it was important to sustain some momentum

The SEC is good too. If this was 2013-2016 SEC I’d feel more confident but good teams in the SEC this year. After Turner, Bowden, and Fulkerson nobody else on this roster has proven they can play SEC minutes.

I'm sure that every possible transfer option was considered last year, but there has to be interest from the player as well.

Which 2 years? The class that included Josiah James? Or the class that included DJ Burns? Or the class that includes Corey Walker? Or the class that included Yves Pons?
He had to dig out a reclassification with Burns. clever, but only because he blanked on true seniors.
Pons? He was a decent prospect but if you think that established that class as good, you’re crazy.
He absolutely took two years off. If Burns and Pons are your examples then your only making his case.
