It sucks to hear, but they really see as much as anyone with a disinterested set of eyes does. In 2015 we heard a lot of "man this team looks like a legit SEC team finally". Some similar talk in 2016 of course with skill talent, but seemed underwhelmed with development in the trenches.

2017 was muddled the whole way. Wasn't sure what to think. Part of that was Butch putting the clamps on everything. He knew disaster was coming. But the one thing that stuck out was how the staff was surprised we didn't make bigger progress with Rock/S&C.

Last year after hearing 247 it felt like a 3-win season was on the horizon. Ryan and Wes came off as if it would be crazy if we even made a bowl game. And Wes has been very positive on Pruitt.

This year it again feels like they are all telling us to pump the brakes. It is what it is. Hope we shock all, but I'm NOT going to set my bar for lighting mattresses on fire at "merely" 6-6. Not now. Not with Pruitt and Fulmer. You don't walk into Chernobyl and turn it into Moscow overnight.

Here's what I have learned from my time here. You can't fight back people's optimism and frankly, I never had a desire to. We're all capable of handling disappointment.
Yeah, it sucks..but nowhere near as bad as never feeling optimism to begin with.

Ask Cat, he'll vouch.

Speaking of the dores. Why they call them “vandy boys”, Is it supposed to be cute or something? it’s not like they have a girls softball team that they need to distinguish themselves from.

Most are capable, but I fear the vocal minority that set expectations really high, then turn around and are livid when their own crazy expectations are not met and start the push to put heat on the staff. That is the main downside I see in all of this. I really want this staff and AD to work out and don't want the crazies to run them off too soon.

Oh forget them, they find a reason every year. There's no stopping them but they can't actually do anything other gripe and they're gonna do that anyway.

Barnes had a great season last year and a very good one before that... the problem is college basketball, like every other sport, is an end result business and he didn’t do enough in that regard.

It just depends which way you spin his last two years...it could be: despite having 3 nba players he never won a lone SEC reg title, SEC tournament, and had a 2nd round and a sweet 16 exit.

You could also say he brought big time stability and high level success that this program hasn’t had since Bruce Pearl.

Both are correct. The way he acted this offseason and wanting to go to UCLA just puts a whole different level of pressure on him.

Bass commit watch has to be Barron or Hodge right ? I mean if he accidentally fell into the scoop you would think it has to be local.

Yes, gains in the defense from a schematic standpoint are expected - but when we have to replace our ENTIRE DL and had downright poor LB play last year - it's tough to imagine any gains won't be negated by mediocre 1st and 2nd level play for 1 more season.

I do agree the offense should see big gains. We simply return too much across that side of the ball to not expect a big step forward.

I don’t see how those numbers are odd given the amount of swing games we have. I see the biggest gain coming from the back end to the front... however I don’t agree that our LB play was bad or poor... average yes.. poor no...

I also think the LB group will be the most improved and when that group is going this defense goes... you have bituli, Crouch, Henry T in the middle... Taylor on the end (I think he ends up having a great year and goes in the first two rounds of the draft) along with Bennett, Johnson, Harrison, and I know I’m forgetting some... also adding guys like McCollough that are your “glue” guys for this defense and you start to look pretty stout...

I think when you add a guy like Williams, and the NT like Simmons you start to look a lot better so this “we suck” on the defensive line isn’t really true... we will be average middle of the pack but in this defense the LB’s make the Defensive Line right...

I could be wrong and I’m definitely not the “I know everything guy” so maybe I’m off base but where I am sitting I see us at 8-4 with a possibility of us getting to 9 and of everything goes wrong and we have injuries then we could drop as low as 6 wins but I don’t see that happening.
