You ever left a job that you’ve been at for 20 years? You ever been at a job for 20 years? Point is sometimes things get stale and a change of pace is best for both parties. I guarantee if you ask any Texas basketball fan they’ll be glad they had Rick Barnes as a coach.

Also, I'm not sure you truly believed Williams and Schofield were future NBA players after their FR and SO seasons, respectively.

The AD will fully support him but if he misses the tournament the fan base will be loud. A lot of the good he built up the last two years is gone. 2/5 tournaments isn’t good.

Then the fan base is the problem. This guy is the best coach that this program has ever had. You are not going to get anyone better. The program just does not have that kind of reputation. Who would want to come here if Barnes is not good enough? No one.

That seems really boring. The board will be dead if we have to wait till March to see how everything plays and then we can give our opinions.

1) Third best coach in program history.

2) Where did I say he should be fired or the AD will think about firing him? Just saying missing the tournament for the third time along with the UCLA situation he lost a lot of good will with the fan base.

3) Why do a lot of you see criticism immediately means that I am advocating for someone to replace Barnes?

I saw two. I thought both Grant and Admiral had NBA potential. And there was a lot of people who thought Bone had a ton of talent.

I wanted Brad Underwood (which has not worked out that’s why I’m not an AD) and a couple others (Id have to look at my list again). Either way, if Barnes truly thought this place was a dumpster then he would have sat out a year and tried next year to find a job.

I never said it was a dumpster fire, but it sure as hell wasnt a good situation so you’re arguing semantics. Bottom line is he’s done a better job than what we could have expected from any other candidate at the time. If we don’t win the ncaa in his tenure, then at least we’ll get to watch a really good basketball that has a chance come March. I have no doubt the program will end up in better shape at the end of his time than after any coach in my lifetime.

Not downplaying the program but if your Barnes and UCLA starts calling to offer you a job as the HC, which school gives you a better chance to win?

Our reputation in this sport can only get you so far. We only have so much we can offer to coaches but that doesn’t mean they’re going to want to listen.

That’s fine. Put Im pretty sure I said both have talent to make the NBA. I know for sure I did on Williams, Schofield I wasn’t as confident. I remember saying if Williams was 6’10 he’d be a lottery pick during his freshman year.

He took two transfers and the NCAA is now cracking down on waivers to play immediately. We’re gonna have 11 scholarship players eligible to play.

-Two freshmen need a year to develop (Pember & Gaines)
-One player is allegedly on thin ice (Burns)
-One player can’t stay healthy (Kent)
-Pons and Johnson haven’t proven they’re rotation players
-Fulkerson hasn’t proved he’s a starter
-James is a freshman

There are so many questions. So many things can go wrong.

Having a transfer like Blackshear be available is luck. A number of circumstances have to come together for that to happen. Sucks we couldn’t land him. But the fact we have so much riding on a lucky happenstance is not good.
