You ever left a job that you’ve been at for 20 years? You ever been at a job for 20 years? Point is sometimes things get stale and a change of pace is best for both parties. I guarantee if you ask any Texas basketball fan they’ll be glad they had Rick Barnes as a coach. If Texas hadn’t fired him for Shaka Smart, your point would have had a chance to be valid.
Yeah, and a whole season had played out in that amount of time. Let's revisit in March of next year and make this an apples to apples discussion instead of an apples to cat food discussion. No but I saw two for sure in March 2017 before UT made the tourney the next year.
Then the fan base is the problem. This guy is the best coach that this program has ever had. You are not going to get anyone better. The program just does not have that kind of reputation. Who would want to come here if Barnes is not good enough? No one.The AD will fully support him but if he misses the tournament the fan base will be loud. A lot of the good he built up the last two years is gone. 2/5 tournaments isn’t good.

I’m not sure how that differs from my point. You ever left a job that you’ve been at for 20 years? You ever been at a job for 20 years? How many NBA players did you see two years ago at this time? Zero. Barnes developed them. No one was talking about Bone, Williams, or Schofield as NBA prospects in 2017.
I never said it was a dumpster fire, but it sure as hell wasnt a good situation so you’re arguing semantics. Bottom line is he’s done a better job than what we could have expected from any other candidate at the time. If we don’t win the ncaa in his tenure, then at least we’ll get to watch a really good basketball that has a chance come March. I have no doubt the program will end up in better shape at the end of his time than after any coach in my lifetime.I wanted Brad Underwood (which has not worked out that’s why I’m not an AD) and a couple others (Id have to look at my list again). Either way, if Barnes truly thought this place was a dumpster then he would have sat out a year and tried next year to find a job.
So after their SO and FR seasons, respectively, you saw Schofield and Williams as NBA draft picks. I call BS.
And it especally isn't a good look after that pay hike
