Zach Smith Podcast episode 5 ... Zach goes into UT pretty extensively

If he had sterling character... there is still a reason people haven't beaten his door down. My suspicion is that he isn't a much better manager/leader of college players than Jones was.
Well, I wouldn't say that .. we can question the guy's character with regards to whether he knew about Sandusky or not, but he had Rutgers in the top 10 which is a near super human feat and they beat better teams semi-regularly

There were reports that even at Rutgers he didn't manage and lead the players very well.

One of the sure ways to determine if a leader has done that well... is to watch what happens when they leave. A leader that builds the right culture will leave something that sustains on momentum for a while.

And again, he was so great that when OSU needed to replace Meyer... they chose a younger guy with less experience who had never been a HC rather than promote Schiano.

I don't know if Pruitt will succeed or fail. But frankly I am thankful every day that Schiano wasn't hired... and it has little to do with the scandal. He reminds me of Butch Jones in leadership style. Plus... the fact that he wasn't good enough for OSU tells me he wasn't good enough for UT. If you consider yourself a lower tier from the top programs... you are.

I have always thought that other Vol fans were like me. They/we didn't want him as the head coach. However, just the desire of not having him here was not good enough. So, people did whatever it took to destroy their character! But, in a way, that had to be done for him not to be here.

Was not proven incorrect by not having him here as the head coach. Look at how OSU did not place him as the head coach!

Interesting that he got one of the most coveted gigs in all of football (Patriots DC) then without notice resigned to spend time with his family and faith. Maybe a family problem that needs his full time attention or maybe a moral failure.... Either way that's another reason to be glad he's not at UT.

Ryan Day was ALWAYS going to be the pick and a lot of that had to do with his offensive mindset and they wanted to stay with an offensive coach at OSU. Rutgers made a REALLY bad hire following Schiano's departure from there. I am not saying I like the guy but as a football coach, the only place he hasn't done well was the NFL for my Bucs. Part of that was he came in treating these multi-million dollar players just like 18 or 19 year old college kids and that never works.

Like I was saying in the other reply, they were not going to put a defensive coach in there to replace Meyer. They wanted an offensive mind, plain and simple and Day seems to be the hot new pick for that. Do I know if Day will be successful as a HC? No, and neither does Zach Smith no matter what he thinks. But you could have had Tony Dungy over there as their DC and they still would have went with an offensive minded guy.

Why are you continuing to argue for the guy? There were reports that he didn't handle 18/19 year old players all that much better as a HC.

If he had been a great coach then OSU would have promoted him. Their plans for Day really don't contradict that. If he was a great HC then the plan would have been for him.

I’ll check this out... His podcasts are actually pretty interesting and knowledgeable, considering that he was a complete psycho during his public meltdown at OSU.

I listened because he went in-depth about the Meyer-Florida days in one of them. Many interesting tidbits. He also had an interesting discussion on Percy Harvin. He overheard a conversation where Pete Carroll (then with the Seahawks) called and asked Meyer how he managed Percy? They basically discussed that Percy was a little odd off the field, but on the field he was quite possibly the greatest player they had ever laid eyes on. They also discussed how Percy just didn’t show up for the road trip to South Carolina while at Florida. Just completely MIA and unaccounted for. Meyer later said (lied) that he didn’t make the trip due to migraines.
I listened to one of them where he had Mullen in his sights talking about his DUI and illegitimate kid.

My bad, just stating my opinion .. no more arguing it

Yeah, he said Mullen is a guy Urban wouldn’t sit down and have a beer with but respected him as a coach. Mullen is strange.

ask Tampa Bay players that played for him what they thought of him. he doesn't have a great rep as a players coach.

bottom line, all that it means with Day getting the interim job and being tapped out is that GS was 2nd tier at best and that's enough for me.

Laugh all you want but a lot of experts would agree.

A funny thing happened with the Schiano hire. The fans went negative so fast that the media had to quickly jump to his defense knowing the story would get a lot more clicks if it was about UT messing up again. However there were a couple stories that got posted before the fan reactions took hold and they show how the rest of the sports world really saw the hire.

I do agree with him, about Tennessee. A better Tennessee makes for a better SEC.

He’s generally a train wreck.
Talking about Zach? Yeah, I would agree if so (Mullen too if you are speaking about him) and his love for OSUck is causing him to say some obviously misleading stuff on there .. it's entertaining for sure but you have to take much of it with a grain of salt

Why was Urban relieved that Fulmer was fired? Fulmer come close to beating them in 2006, then lost by 39 to a 5 loss UF team and 24 his last year.

Seems like he would have been upset Fulmer was gone.

Says the SEC won't be better than the Big 10 until Tennessee is back
Says Schiano was one of the best coaches he knew and how close that came to happening
Says Lane Kiffin was a good fit at Tennessee
Says Urban was relieved when Fulmer was fired
Says Butch Jones was a joke, had no clue what he was doing and he had Urban penis envy

Based on the tiny shoes he wore, Butch has penis envy of every living American male.
