Go to bed. Nothing happening tonight

247 poster said 247 has King as a Vols/Aggies battle, but ToS (Rivals) has it a Vols/Duke battle.

Always a great thing to be the common denominator!! Elite QB play is going to be in Neyland through 2022, at a minimum, one way or another.

Meanwhile, only USCjr in the East is getting a similarly top notch QB for the future. But Champ is probably out after a 6-6 season anyway.

Feeels good man.

One of the things that pop up in preseasons every year is quarterback rankings. There’s a lot of “muddy waters” in these comparisons because, for example, we’ll probably hear that Franks for Florida threw for 24 TDs last year and only had 6 interceptions while Guarantano only threw for 12 TDs with 3 interceptions. What you may not hear is that 8 of the TDs Franks threw came against the 2 FCS teams on their schedule last year, Charleston Southern (5-6) and Idaho (4-7). Guarantano only faced one FCS team, ETSU (8-4), and was only called on to throw 13 passes in that game. In order to try to get a more leveled comparison I often only look at how guys, or even teams, performed against just fellow SEC competition.

Another point that could be argued that tends to confuse comparisons is the type of quarterback and the system he is operating in. For example, Kelly Bryant is getting a lot of attention, even hype, coming into the conference this year. I think most of that is attributable to his mobility factor. Franks, last year behind a veteran offensive line, also got some attention for having a bit of mobility.

At the time, coming out of HS in 2016, Guarantano, was ranked by the 247 composite at the #1 DT QB ahead of the #4 scrub Jalen Hurts. We run a pro-style system with what many had considered to be a DT QB. I don’t think we had a lot of designed runs for our QB last year.

Bryant was ranked at the #13 DT QB in 2015. Fromm was ranked as the #3 Pro QB in 2017 and Bentley was the #12 Pro in the 2016 class. Franks was the #5 Pro in 2016.

So on our roster right now we have the #1 DT QB from 2016 in JG, the #26 Pro from 2018 in JT, and the #19 Pro in BM from the class of 2019. We have the #5 Pro committed for 2020 in HB and by all reports are going hard after the perceived #3 DT QB in the 2020 class in Haynes King.

Last year at Georgia Fromm had negative rushing yards but in the limited snaps he played Chaney sent Fields (#1 DT QB in 2018) off on 42 carries and Fields averaged 6.33 yards per carry and tallied 4 TDs on the ground, 2 against us.

I know we have an absence of experience for our backup QBs this year and may try to be conservative in trying to limit the number of hits Guarantano may take but given his success with Fields at Georgia with Fields on the ground I’m wondering if Chaney might add a few wrinkles to our offense this year. I’m not comparing Fields and JG beyond the fact that they were at one time both perceived by many as being DT QBs. What prompted this speculation was the occasion in the first half of the spring game when JG took off running down the field for a 15-20 yard gain before they whistled the play dead.

One last point. Last year we gave up 23 sacks for 155 yards. Of course a few of those sacks went to Chryst but for this point I’m not trying to be all that accurate so I’m charging all the sack yardage against Guarantano. He actually had 40 rushing plays minus the 23 sacks which would give him 17 runs or scrambles. For those 17 plays he averaged a net gain of approximately 4.53 yards per carry.

Here is the passing comparison from last year between Franks behind a veteran offensive line and Guarantano behind our walking wounded offensive line - both redshirt sophomores, broken out by competition level.

Trump sign alone probably gives you a 20% chance of being vandalized

Keep it simple with a “Trespassers will be shot on site” sign. That communicates, “I’m lettin’ y’all know with this $2.99 sign, but I’m content to let you call my bluff.”
I'm amazed at how many people have a gun manufacturer decal or a 'this car protected by s&w' sticker on their vehicles. It may scare some thieves but invites others.

I’m glad Ubben is pounding the pavement dragging up these stories that pre-date his give a shizz about the program. Great coach...no doubt. Two interesting points tho. Mid-major (at the time) HC who built his program and has maintained it coaching up 3 stars. 😏
