Insurance is a scam. I'm sure someone can debate me on that, but from stories I've heard during my short lifetime on Earth that is what I've come to understand.
People should view any insurance as major catastrophic loss coverage. Have really high deductibles. That way if say your house burns to the ground, you dont lose everything. Turning in small claims is the recipe for disaster. If your window gets broken out and needs replacement, spend the $1000 rather than turn it in. That $500 claim (after your $500 deductible will turn into $2000 when your insuran e goes up.

It might be different outside of Florida but they can only use zip codes when pulling rate data. So when the entire neighborhood has their roof replaced, itll go up but I've had a roof replaced for 500 to architectural shingles and that claim didnt follow me to Georgia or the renewal.

I had a hard time getting insurance on my house I bought in Oak Ridge because the people that owned it before me filed a claim and the claim stays with the house, not the person that filed the claim. Talk about BS.

Are we going to have another insurance conversation in this thread?

Sounds like an inside job. Someone knew you were gone for a while. Timings too perfect.
True..A lot of people know us here, but the trooper says that there is a group of thieves that spends all day every day marking houses where it looks like nobody has been home for a few days...and we live right on the main highway into town with no neighbors for several hundred feet.

If the TV was all that was stolen, I'm in agreement that it's cheaper (long term) to just replace the TV out of pocket. You can snag those big screens under 1k everywhere, and truth be told unless you're a REAL TV nut you probably won't know the difference between the expensive models and the more affordable.

Toshiba, Visio, Sharp are less expensive and make some great TVs.

Not much crime in my neighborhood but lots of storm damage.
Always just repaired/rebuilt everything myself because that's the greatest thing about insurance... the punishment you receive if you ever dare use the product you're purchasing.
They are bigger thieves than the ones that stole my TV..they literally steal from everybody.

Yep. That severe weather hit all of east TN though, I believe. Tornadoes, lots of hail damage and so on. So I'm just going to deal with it because I love east TN.
Like Invol said, catastrophe, use it. Otherwise, expect them to charge you for smaller coverages but don't actually use it. You end up losing.. unless you're moving somewhere else.

Yeah...I'm not turning this in, the house I live in belongs to the church, and I do not want to cause our rate to go up over a TV. We (our congregation) even fix any damage to the property that we are able to do, just so that we can to avoid that happening.

Do you have a smaller one in another room or that was the only one?
We still have our 11 year old Sony 42 inch. It still has a good picture, but I assume they didn't bother with it because they knew it wasn't worth much...lol...It's worth a lot to me right now...I guess I'll have to breakdown and go get a firestick so I can use my wifi.

For now, I'd pick up a cheaper one.
Grabbed my son a High Sense (Chinese special) with all the bells and whistles 6 years ago. It was so cheap on clearance haha. Figured he could use it for a year or so and we'd grab another. Thing is still being used every day.
Will the church help with the costs of repair?

Yeah TN is likely to be alot different from Florida where hurricanes make insurance a tough product. You can either get nothing or an entire city wiped out. Hard to plan for at a fair rate.

Coming from an insurance agent this is 100% accurate. Same goes for auto insurance. Every company is different but most will drop you like a hot potato for filing “nuisance” claims.

Somebody lied to you or just didn’t want to do the work. At least for my company claims are with the person not the car, house, etc. That would be like counting an accident against you for the driver that wrecked it before you ever bought it.

Same with us. Lightning struck our upstairs then downstairs central units in consecutive years. The second year we just purchased a new one instead of turning it into the insurance even though there was proof that's what happened.

I had multiple agencies tell me that the house had a claim on it and it would stay tied to the house for five years. It was filed the same year I bought the house so next year I should be good. I was still able to get coverage through Liberty Mutual as they didn't mention it. Still feels like I have a high rate but hey what gets paid by escrow I guess.

65" 4K Vizio E Series is around $600 right now. Probably one of the best TVs I have ever had, certainly at that price point.
