AP: Ilhan Omar Ignores Request for Tax Returns, but Demanded Trump’s

The Associated Press (AP) has confirmed that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) filed a joint tax return with one man while being legally married to another — and adds that she has ignored requests to release her tax returns.

Omar has joined Democrats in demanding that President Donald Trump release his tax returns, even claiming — oddly — that he had to do so because it was “required by law”:

The AP story repeats what Breitbart News reported last Thursday — namely, that “Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was found by the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board … to have committed several campaign finance violations.” The violations had to do with her campaign paying legal expenses related to her personal tax returns, and also reimbursing her for out-of-state travel that was found to be unrelated to her state legislative duties.

The board’s report also noted that Omar and Ahmed Hirsi, her current husband, “filed joint tax returns for 2014 and 2015.” That could add fuel to persistent allegations that Omar had been married to two men at the same time — one of whom, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, City Journal noted in 2016, was rumored (though never proven) to be her brother.
The AP reports that it asked for Omar’s tax returns but received no response.

Weren't you aware Democrats are the biggest hypocrites on Earth. Look no further than this trash above.

Minnesota Newspaper Tired of Omar’s Scandals

'Every month seems to bring a fresh problem'

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune editorial board is growing tired of the constant controversies surrounding freshman lawmaker Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.).

"Every month seems to bring a fresh problem" with Omar, the board wrote, after she agreed to repay $3,500 and $500 fines following an investigation into misuse of campaign funds. The Campaign Finance Board found Omar had filed a joint tax return with a man when she was legally married to another at the time.

"Omar’s political rise has been marred by a series of unforced errors, including intemperate remarks and tweets earlier this year that were widely perceived as anti-Semitic," the board wrote. "Every month seems to bring a fresh problem."

The board said Omar's tax discrepancy was potentially serious enough to merit further investigation:
It’s against the law in Minnesota to file jointly unless one filer is legally married to the other. Last year Omar told the Star Tribune that she had married her partner "in her faith," and had earlier divorced her first husband "in her faith." That’s fine for religious purposes. But for tax purposes, only civil marriages qualify. It’s not known whether she benefited materially by filing jointly. That is something that voters, who are obliged to follow tax laws no matter how painful, are entitled to know.

It’s not too much to expect that a lawmaker would check with a tax attorney on a rather complicated marital status before filing.

If this pattern continues, further investigation may be necessary. Omar could have avoided nearly every infraction by taking simple measures in advance to determine whether her actions would pass legal muster. In its findings, the board noted that Minnesota "House Research staff did explain that generally when they discuss whether a member can accept something of value, for example, travel and lodging reimbursement … they discuss whether that would violate the gift prohibition," but do not advise. "Rather, they commonly refer members to the Board. The Omar committee did not contact Board staff … on the appropriateness of using committee funds for the travel reviewed in this investigation."
It's not Omar's first financial transgression, either. She had to return $2,500 in speaking fees while a member of the Minnesota State House for accepting money from groups with business before the legislature.

The editorial board said Omar owed her constituents better, given her status as one of the Democratic Congress's most visible new members. She is the first Somali-American elected to Congress, but she has made a series of anti-Semitic and other controversial remarks while in office.

What is Ilhan Omar hiding about her marriages?

People don't like to discuss their personal lives in public, much less when multiple divorces and children are involved. Even in public life, there ought to remain a reasonable amount of privacy when it comes to a purely intimate matter. But red flags about the two or three marriages of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., have now produced evidence of lawbreaking.

It's time to start asking questions.

The first question of public interest is whether Omar violated federal tax law. In 2014 and 2015, she filed her taxes jointly with a man named Ahmed Hirsi. She was legally married to another man, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, at the time.

Omar's marital history is complicated, to say the least. In 2002, Hennepin County marriage records show that Omar applied for a marriage license with Hirsi, according to the Associated Press, and Omar said that while "we never finalized the application and thus were never legally married," they married in a "faith tradition." Omar and Hirsi had two children and ended their relationship in 2008.

On Feb. 12, 2009, Omar legally married Elmi, a British citizen.

This is where things get dicey. Omar says that she and Elmi divorced in their faith tradition in 2011. In a public statement, Omar said that "since 2011" she and Hirsi reconciled, and according to the local outlet Twin Cities, Hennepin County records say that she and Hirsi reconciled in 2012. Omar had her third child, Ilwad Hirsi, in June of 2012, implying that she and Hirsi must have reconciled in 2011.

Omar did not file for divorce from Elmi until 2017, the year after she was elected to the Minnesota House. On Dec. 4, 2017, they legally divorced, and on Jan. 5, 2018, Omar and Hirsi legally married.

On its own, the situation is curious. Omar spent some six years legally married to one man while, according to her own telling and her tax filings, in a relationship with another, who is presumably the father of all three of her children. That there's an apparent tax violation here is enough to make this a matter of public interest. But the story gets stranger.

It has been unearthed that on the morning of Aug. 15, 2016, Omar's crisis manager, Ben Goldfarb, emailed multiple members of Omar's team, including the then-candidate and her divorce and campaign attorney, Carla Kjellberg, trying to shut down journalist Blois Olsen and his story "down with him as [they did] with the [Star Tribune]."

That afternoon, Goldfarb emailed the same group of people, "I’ve talked to the [Star Tribune] and they are generally in a good place (they get that there are not 2 legal marriages and are not pursuing the brother angle), but have pieced together that the person she is legally married to is not the father of children, on the website, etc."

That is to say, she was legally married to Elmi at the time of her congressional run, but publicly identified Hirsi as her husband.

At this point, Omar had never held elected office, yet she and her camp successfully shot down at least one story and tried to do so for another. The Tribune played along.

What was she hiding? Why did she file taxes with one man while married to the other? Why did she attempt to shut down stories about her marriages? Plenty of politicians are divorced, and nobody cares. She could have come out with the truth, say that she simply didn't know jointly filing with her de facto husband while legally married to another man was against the law. But instead, why all the cover ups?
