I was there pre-wal mart too, but it wasnt exactly on campus. It was either a long walk trek or a drive...in which case one could just as easily get to many other shopping centers in 5 minutes. No real sustainable non-student population there to support it either. Cherokee/Sequoyah Hills yuppees ain't going there, nor are downtown residents.

It was literally a short walk from the edge of campus. That's actually why I stated it the way I did- "at a college campus." Nonetheless, it was as close as it could be without being on campus. I had a vehicle every year, and I didn't want to drive to Gallaher or wherever the other one is. That place in August should be a madhouse, and I don't like Walmart. I never go to them, but I am just shocked it closed.

Surprises me too, but also wonder how the ethos of the younger generation changes how they perceive Wal-Mart.

It opened in 2014, they have 3 other stores within 5 miles of this location that closed. I imagine its more Walmart is rethinking their big box strategy & focusing more of an online business than continuing its boxed retail business.

SOURCE: Im the guy who works to place 1200 new dollar general stores in the country annually lol

I didn't realize there were 3 others within 5 miles. I haven't lived in Knoxville since 2002. But that makes the decision to even open in the first place a head scratcher as well.

Just produce at publix, starts at 11 bucks an hour. Just needed something while im taking classes. Not a lot of jobs within 30 miles of where im at in south GA

You best believe im going to put out the oranges in a power T... but quit half way through

Simonton said during the podcast that Tillman wasted his redshirt because he played in a lot of games just blocking. But I thought it was reported he did redshirt last year.

Anyone know for sure?

Is dollar general going online?

TIL Max Kellerman, Immortal Technique, Desus Nice, Chris Hayes, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, Big Pete from the Adventures of Pete & Pete all went to the same high school.

Greenwich Village...not surprised. Surrounded by influentials.

My HS has the bass player from Weezer and keyboard player from Moon Taxi...suck it Manhattan.

Oh wait, and 2 NFL punters...for those of you that like American Football and all.

Holly Warlick (yay) and Jack Hanna apparently too via Wikipedia.

What are you studying and is it UNF again?

Didnt think Walmart would allow that. There was a Walmart (one of the neighborhood grocery style Walmart’s) that closed around my old place in East Nashville and the rumor was that they wouldn’t sell the space to another grocery store chain.

Im not sure how their lease works but with Dollar General we definitely sign similar things. Like no Family Dollar can go right next to a Dollar General. But im not sure how it works once they close? Maybe the landlord/city forced Walmart to sign something like if they leave they have to recoop some of the cost? Idk.

Used to live by that Walmart in East too!

Good place to work, a HS friend with I think 3 or 4 different BS degrees got on there while in college and still works there.
