But maybe he wasn’t willing to oversign until said transfer came along, maybe only then did he say he was good with oversigning?

What if the staff wanted to sign Johnson/Springer/Walker for 2020 all along, said transfer comes along and he wants him too, so he says take him and we will still take all 3 if we can get them?

Fwiw you also said ORN and Plavsic weren’t both takes, it was 1 or the other, so...

2021 MN PF Chet Holmgren
Made the list for the 12 players in 2020 and 2021 who have boosted their stock this spring and in line for a big rankings climb.
Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota (where his father played) Missouri, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, West Virginia and others have offered. Like Hall above, Holmgren already got a bit of a bump thanks to class movement around him. But, when we do a full update the skilled seven-footer will be elevated to five-star status and he's going to get serious consideration for the national top 10 in 2021. Not only is he skilled and fluid, he's much tougher than anybody could reasonably expect somebody as skinny as he is to be.

Also mentioned earlier this month he’ll be in Charlottesville, Va., for the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 Camp in June. At which time, he is going to try and visit Tennessee. Also stated distance will not be a factor in his recruitment.

Didn’t catch before that his dad played at MN - sounds like it could be tough for everyone else to pull him away

Agreed could potentially be a factor and also already has a good relationship with Purdue as well. Interestingly, he emphasized going somewhere that placed an emphasis on the development of bigs which I think allows us to put our name in the hat so to speak. Getting him on campus in June will go a long way to (hopefully) securing his pledge

Thought the same thing about the development issue, which makes Purdue a logical choice. It would really help our case for Plavsic to get eligible, and for he, Fulkerson, and Kent to show some improvement/promise this season.

Agreed. But Fulkerson is what he is atp.. I firmly believe he will contribute and he does a sufficient job for the most part within his role but the development of Plavsic, Kent and DJ will be huge this summer. Adding a kid like this to that mix would be nasty, Holmgren's ability to stretch the floor coupled with his ability to put the ball on the floor is lethal (all while doing this at the 4). But there is something about ORN, idk just yet but I feel like he may serve as one of the top dawgs from this past class by season's end.

I disagree on Fulkerson. I don't think he has yet to come back from all his inuries. I think it is still unknown what he is capable of, but I don't think he has hit his ceiling yet.

Iyo what could he add to better his game this season? I think he does a very good job in his role: hustle's on both ends, solid screen guy, and pretty heady player on the court in terms of making the right pass and rotating defensively. His energy off of the bench at times gives the squad a boost but just calling it for what it is, he's an undersized 5 with a limited array of skills offensively and at times defensively served as a liability when it came to the glass. But in the end, he's a solid rotation piece for our team, true Glue Guy.

Me too. I’d be glad to see Barnes show he can do that. At this point he hasn’t. Basically taught Cone how to reclassify and then got beat out by a first year head coach. I understand Barnes not wanting “cases” or the wanting to get in the mud, but that’s what your going to get at that talent level. I’d be prepared for more marginal players like Pember, Kent and Johnson.

IMO Fulky's lack of confidence on the O end is his biggest issue. He seems to get nervous when he receives a pass. I think another year and knowing that he doesn't need to look for Admiral or Grant may help with some of this. I don't pretend that he will ever be option 1 or 2, but if he can become a more solid option then that is good enough.

Staying out of foul trouble. His size issue is mass not height. One you can fix the other you can’t. He has the one you can fix. Also, if Burns is a player and the transfer gets eligible then Fulk can play the four some, which will work well for him.

I think he has great potential. He knows how to finish. Needs to work on his post up moves and focus on rebounding and defending without fouling.

You can look back at my comments when Williams was being recruited as well as Bone.
I knew Williams would be an instant scorer. I was very high on Bone as well. They’re gone and I haven’t seen the glimmers from the other players.

Do I have think Barnes will catch lightning in a bottle again? Possibly, but I’m skeptical. I think you’ll see a lot of up and down.

What about the fact he landed Yves Pons, DJ Burns, Josiah James, Olivier Robinson-Nkamhoua and Corey Walker who are all higher ranked guys than those you mentioned?

I think you answered your own question. Improvement of his offensive production in the way of a solid 8-10 ft jumper and a go to post move would help. We don't need him to score 15 ppg to replace GW's production, but if he could give us 8 ppg and 6-8 rpg with expanded minutes, it would help in replacing what Alexander gave us.

Yea he is what he is atp.. and with that sort of production it would go a long way in attempting to fill that void from said name's above but the younger players present much more of the unknown.. of course that unknown could be negative but from the optimistic side of the street but our young big's will have just as much say in how we replace that same production this season..

SN: I hope ppl don't think I don't like Fulky.. as stated earlier, solid player that is more of a benefit than a hinderance

I mostly agree, but with just one caveat. If we say he is what he is, then is that the player that looked like the best freshman of the bunch vs UNC and Oregon before his injury, or is it the seemingly more timid version we have seen since? If we could harness the aggressive version we saw three years ago as a young freshman on a more consistent basis, he may present more upside than any of us realize.

Walker isn’t even signed. Pons is horrible.
I’ve already given him credit for getting Burns to reclassify.
James is by far the best recruit he’s had. Bought time.
I’m very curious to see ORN.
I know you agreed that with me a while back regarding the perplexing lack of ball handling guard recruits and pure shooters.

But you are claiming on one hand that he isn’t signing high enough ranked guys, then he signs higher ranked guys and you claim they suck, so which do you want? Guys who are good? Higher ranked guys, but that don’t live up? Or only higher ranked guys who turn out to be good? Just seems like a strange stance.

I’m not sure I recall that, I remember you recently mentioning it and I told you how they were looking at multiple guards in the 2020 class.
