yep. biggest difference in that gator bowl year and today is that there was no ESD. we have that same type of bowl game this year, after ESD, the writing may already be ont he wall (for the most part, see feb signing day this past cycle) for this class.

it needs to look a lot different than last year, for sure. and a win over FL, GA or Bama wouldn't hurt. i'm not counting on the latter two. i think it's at least possible against FL.

beat Vandy. win 2/3 against MO, USCe and MSU.

i mean...i think it's there. i think so? it just doesn't seem like it is insurmountable for us to win 7/8 games THIS year. it just doesn't.

I agree on all fronts.

Then I hear good news for USCjr or State and I'm like, "weellll shucks". Then good stuff happens on our end and I'm like, "9-3 bitchezzzzz".

Vols fandom is a mental health issue, for sure.

that's why "it's may" still matters.

now...it can't be "it's december" or "it's february" and it still matter lol.

but in may? yeah. that still works....lol.

So, kind of a spin-off of our recruiting momentum/season expectations discussion..

Trying to be as unbiased as possible, putting yourself in the shoes of a blue chip recruit, which coach/school situation does CJP/Tennessee most resemble so far, in the last 10 years of SEC football?

Every situation is unique-- is CJP/UT too unique to have any sort of [Coach X]-esque to him?

Edit: After thinking on it a little.. honestly hate to say it, but the most similar situation could be Mullen/MissSt.. gonna try to brainstorm some more..

Just heard about the Ebony Jackson decommitment. Totally fine with that. Film looked ok, but wasn’t thrilled by any means. Always interesting to see if our decommitments end up doing anything elsewhere. Most, have not

Mike Farrell just showed up on VQ and made a thread titled "Not worried about TN recruiting"

I believe in Pruitt and feel they will land a top 15 class at least maybe top 10. It's still so early and the guys they have now like Bailey and the JUCOs are very good and ready to impact immediately.

Read the whole thread? Mad Chaney didn't check on him but left out that Chaney couldn't go over because of the "bump" infraction.
Always entertaining.

I read the first 2 books of the intended 3 book series and loved the story. Been waiting on that 3rd book almost as long as I have been waiting on GRRM's WInter Is Coming.

I have read that there are rights to both a movie and a tv series, but after HBO going with an unfinished ASOIAF, I really wish Rothfuss could get that final book published before that happens.

Rothfuss is too busy typing his blog about hippie parenting techniques probably. I dunno I stopped reading it years ago.

I am very bullish on this season as well.

But to the recruiting point, I’m not sure the bare minimum would be to create high level recruiting momentum. To be honest, there might not be a specific number of wins that would achieve said goal.

We need to win games, but more than anything, we need our current players to look like they’re having fun and flying around. And we especially need our fanbase to get rowdy in support of the current iteration of the program. We went 0/3 last year - my gut tells me we get all three this season.

We need those quality wins. Recruits want to believe they can win championships at UT and that starts with being competitive with, and beating, the top-tier teams. Forget Vandy. Baron, Lawrence, Mays, Hardy and Gilbert measure success against the Big 6-- and especially the Big 2 in the East. As for the fun angle, that's why they changed up the weekend and had paintball. They'll be doing more things like that, and props to the coaches for the change of tack.

Hindsight being 20:20... In year 1 under Pruitt, I think we really only had two major games that made prospects think twice--

First, taking shooting both of our feet against Florida. Can't have 6 turnovers in a rivalry game. That was a big recruiting weekend with lots of visitors in town and we let them blow our doors off from the start.

and Last, losing by 3+ TD's against Vandy. That was a game of 'who wants it', a battle of bowl eligibility, and of in-state reputation.

Is he one of those "be happy you even have that much" type writer?
I have not heard many interviews. Martin's problem is that he writes slow and gets involved in about 400 projects at once, so it's hard for him to finish anything. In his latest "non-blog," he is writing about helping with the four potential "successor shows" to GoT on HBO. That makes me very unhappy because it is something else that will delay The Winds of Winter even more.

Yep, those really hurt. Vandy could have been the most detrimental because the Auburn and UK wins gave hope of an upswing, putting the UF and UGA losses in the rearview mirror... then the Mizzou and Vandy blowouts made everyone second-guess. I think the main reason some recruits are taking more time deciding is because they're not really sure how far UT is away from competing. They'd like to believe that UT is on-track... but there's so much creation of doubt.

Paintball is one of the regular team bonding activities so they're just making it part of recruiting, too. They do other chemistry- and team-building stuff like bowling, movie night, etc. But paintball sounds like the most fun.
