VN's very own political meme thread...

National Healthcare would be like trying to stream Netflix on AOL dial-up, while paying movie theater ticket and popcorn prices.
Anyone with VA experience knows nationally run healthcare will be a nightmare. Guy at work only uses VA. They said they think he has lung cancer..follow up in 3 months...

It never made sense to me to put the same people that have to pay your retirement over your healthcare.

It may greatly depend on the location. Some are good, others...we'll leave it at "government administered health care."

I'm just calling bs on the VA diagnosing a guy with lung cancer and telling him we'll see you in three months. There's a 100% chance that's not true. If they weren't able to handle the acute nature of the ailment they'd refer him to the private sector for immediate treatment.

Some facilities are well run, others are terrible and that will be the same with government run healthcare. The major problem will be lack of choice, if your local facility is crap and you won't have another option.

"Think" he has lung cancer.

Such things, in my experience, aren't easy to detect early on. Case in point is myself.

Trust me, if I could get the tumor they ripped out of me claimed on my service records (I'm 99.99999% positive it was preexisting) I'd be getting seriously more disability.

Though every case is different - generally, signs of lung cancer isn't a 'wait and see' ailment. If there's a hint, MRI's/CT's and biopsy's are on the menu along with referrals to specialists.

It took me three weeks to get in for a scan with mine...

You ever consider getting a VA advocate to work it on your behalf? If you can get a Dr opinion on the likely timeline in writing and give it to the advocate they might be able to have your records amended? Not unheard of.
