I think I'm all going to stop reading recruiting articles from recruits unless they've been on campus at least three times. The whole follow the visits thing. Otherwise, these kids all just seem to be pandering to the fan bases in their quest for social media attention.

Lost out on RJ yesterday, but I didn't think he was going to commit to us in the first place - despite all his flowery words post visit.

Here are guys who, unlike RJ, I really feel strongly will be Tennessee Volunteers when it's all said and done:

Michigan DT Justin Rogers
Knoxville SDE Tyler Baron - side note, think he'll be the first to boom out of all the in-staters
Chattanooga SDE Jay Hardy - side note, I really hate I had to take orange defense off ignore just so I can see this kids thread
Dickson County DT Tre'vonn Rybka
Nashville Safety Keshawn Lawrence
Marietta WDE BJ Ojulari
Knoxville Center Cooper Mays

Those are kids who I really think we have a legit chance of pulling a sweep on. I think we can land each and every one of them. And while a five star wide receiver is more flashy, I think we all know you the more valuable guys and the guys we need the most are the ones in the trenches. Looking above, that would be an amazing DL haul - on par with our OL haul last season.

As far as receivers go, if you put a gun to my head and told me my life depended on predicting one receiver in our class correctly, I'm saying

Florence AL Athlete/WR Dee Beckwith

Outside of him, I feel like we'll land at least one out of the Kris Abraims-Draine/Thaiu Jones-Bell/EJ Williams trio (listed in order of likeliness IMO)

Usually a 100% with you on this.
But even though I don't say much about him, it's these rare times like this draft, when the situation slaps me in the face again.
It'll move on after this and so will I... again.
This. Just another reminder. He's the gift that keeps on giving...

Just won 500 from this for Lowe’s. Peep. No kidding. Called Lowe’s and everything to make sure it’s real.

Send an IM that says Spring to 78133. You’ll get back a link from Lowes to a coupon worth between $5 and $500 to spend today.
Thanks for posting this 30 min before they close here in eastern time.

... regardless of how Pruitt appears to recruit, it isn’t likely to be as bad as Lyle.

I take exception to complaints about Pruitt’s recruiting.

This is going to sound really negative but I think Pruitt faces the toughest recruiting environment of any of his recent predecessors. Kiffin, Dooley and Jones could all sell UT as a sleeping giant, only recently removed from its former glory. Pruitt doesn’t have that advantage.

We are now 12 years removed from our last 10 win season. Only Vandy in the SEC hasn’t had a 10 win season in that stretch. And Vandy has a winning record against us in football from 2008 onward, and their two best seasons in that stretch (9 wins) match our two best season in the same stretch.

I think it still hasn’t dawned on a lot of Tennessee fans how truly terrible we have been (and frankly still are, though we are building out of it).

Pruitt is trying to sell a dream to kids who have never seen it be reality. It’s no wonder he seems to whiff on a lot of 5-stars. He also does go after the big names whereas Dooley and Butch seemed to pivot quickly to the guys they thought would sign, particularly in the latter years. We see where that got us.

Some probably still wonder if we hired the right guy. I keep recalling the coaching search of 2017 and how no one wanted the job. We were reduced to hiring an unproven coordinator with no head coaching experience, like Vandy, Mississippi State and Kentucky historically have done. We clearly had no other options.

This thing is going to take time. It really is. If folks don’t like it they should just check out for a while rather than lingering and complaining. Nothing’s going to make this go fast. Nothing. Not when we have Bama, UF and UGA early on our schedule and they are all starting to hum at the same time...

Simeon Rice maybe isn’t the best example of how a great 40 time doesn’t predict NFL success. Dude had a great NFL career. Maybe someone like Mike Mamula would be a better example.

NFL combine: Mike Mamula's 1995 combine remains one of best ever
Maybe we don’t have the same point? I wasn’t reflecting on him as a PLAYER. I do have instances of recall...and I used it when recalling his career. He ran 4.5 at the Combine in shorts and was netting sacks years later and that time in PADS would have been closer to 5.0. You never get timed again because it doesn’t matter.

I agree on it being super challenging to recruit for UT football right now. I wouldn’t want the job to be honest. What are we selling these kids, a chance to play at UT? That’s a joke for most of these youngsters, especially the ones with offers from SEC teams with recent success. We are having to sell these kids on coaching ability, and the ability to develop NFL players. I really believe Pruitt has to somehow find a way to get this team to 8-9 wins this fall for us to build recruiting momentum. That’s a tall task with this limited roster, but it’s necessary imo for us to turn this ship around.

Chris Henry for the Titans. Didn’t do squat at Ari-frickin-zona, blows up the combine and they pick him in the 2nd if I remember correctly. Dumbest pick ever by the Titans and was the sole reason I prayed we didn’t draft DK Metcalf (unless it was like 5th round). Workout warriors can kiss my rear.

Any class that produces 8-12 NFL players (8 already and there's a good chance a few others make the NFL that are still playing) is a solid class.

Jones could recruit regardless of this "new" narrative he painted. What he wasn't good at was developing his players both physically (bigger & stronger) or mentally (teaching technique & increasing football IQ). Pruitt I feel has all the tools...it to me is a time thing more than an ability thing.

I think Pruitt will be a damn good HC, I just wonder -when- it'll happen and if he'll still be at UT or not.

Eight already?

I disagree.

A lot of guys went undrafted and signed a standard non guaranteed rookie tryout deal. Odds are very likely some of them never make an NFL practice squad, let alone a roster.

Not true. Name some offensive lineman he put in the NFL during his tenure? (You can’t count Khalil McKenzie) Also his recruiting tailed off when he could no longer sell Hope and early playing time. Guarantee his last 2 classes look very different than that one.

I've seen some people talking about the 4th ranked 2015 recruiting class we signed and figured I'd put together a best effort cheat sheet on what happened to those guys.

This is misleading..there were two draft picks from this class..not exactly good..one was a third rounder and the other a fifth in kamara and mckenzie
