I'm not trying to argue and I'm sure you're right but if you follow the clock on the screen the play lasts at most 1.5 seconds. I mean we've got the slowest least athletic guys on the field playing offensive line and we think they're agile enough to accomplish 2 assignments in under 2 seconds. I'm just saying I don't think the kid's brain can work that fast, let alone his feet. If you're right then I'm not sure we wouldn't be better served with a more straight forward blocking scheme. jmo.
In truth, I still think it was a bad call but I could be wrong. I never played offensive line. I've read about it, but I was a receiver and defensive back so I really never paid attention to what those guys in the trench were doing. I do however remember all the double team blocking drills Fingers posted in his spring practice reports. We've obviously got that down now. Maybe in fall camp we add in some advanced drills so we learn how to do what you are suggesting. I'm still not sure about the speed thing though. I don't think we're going to get that much faster in 4 months. jmo
