I’m so far behind in this thread, but I now work for an ad agency and handle marketing for a chain of restaurants that have a few locations in the tricities and we are evaluating some sponsorship opportunities with ETSU.

Hit me up if you ever need customized menu covers, print menus, etc. #shamelessplug

Hey bass this is what i have on the back window of my challenger

D. Taylor-- has my confidence
A. Taylor-- quit getting ejected for targeting
Thompson-- looked ready at CB even in the 2nd quarter against WVU
Bituli-- in prime position to emerge along with Shanon Reid
Gooden-- has my confidence
Warrior-- needs to step it up this year the most out of anyone in this group
J. Johnson-- idk much, but this is year 2 of 3? Lotta false starts last year? Hopefully can be serviceable depth
J.J.-- dog.
Calloway-- he fast and catch good. still has plenty of room for improvement.
Palmer-- wouldn't surprise me if he stepped up
DWA-- room for improvement, potential to do it
JG-- game manager so far. We'll need him to do more if we expect to win.. but OL first...
Chandler-- would be an awesome wrinkle player under Chaney. Already a solid RB1, hasn't been able to showcase behind a competent OL
Jordan-- sell on that stock, no offense to him

Some of the players you named played some really bad football last year lol.

I do love A. Taylor, & B. Thompson. I would take them over any corner combo in the SEC maybe. Especially for the next two years. I also think D. Taylor is a NFL player. I also think our WRs are pretty solid. I wish we had a better option behind chandler. Hopefully banks is that. I’ve honestly seen enough of Jordan.

Though, I actually did get back to back bar trivia bonus questions last month - what is the theoretically most points one can score in 1 game of jeopardy? And the least?

There’s only two guys I mentioned you can say played “bad” ball and that was Bituli and Warrior. Warrior is gonna have a much better year this year in Pruitts system. I think that’s safe to say. Also, they seem to have a better idea how to use Bituli. Where he struggled last year was covering receivers and TE’s. But he is very good against the run and it seems that is how they will use him and also as a pass rusher. Those are his strengths. He also is much bigger and stronger. Gonna be a good year for him also.

In regards to bituli, i don’t think you can hide him? He may be effective in a short yardage situation. But at the end of the day he’s going to have to cover someone especially if he’s in the middle of our sub packages. I definitely haven’t seen anything from him as a pass rusher to make me have confidence in that but inside LB is my most worrisome position group in our team for me.

I keep waffling on Jordan. He had his bouncing outside issue but it seems like it improved iirc. He had some tough runs against Bama. Averaged second most YPCs last yr. And quietly put up the most YPCs in the O&W game.

Now, him being the subject of one your hot takes, makes me want to root for the guy.lol.

It’s not that i think he’s awful or anything but i would rather see banks or a newcomer.

This is a pretty good list.

I think the weakest parts of our team last year were: Pass coverage from ILB, pass protection from RB, & Downfield passing.

I’m hoping DJ gets more from our RBs in that department. To evaluate a RB coach i usually look at the RBs pass pro and route running... Gillespie was a great RB coach and our RBs were always strong in those areas.

Fwiw he was 2nd to last in YPC, not 2nd. At least according to cfbstats.

YPC went:
1) Chandler (5.48)

2) Fils-Aime (5.14) few attempts, but I'd like too see him get more personally. Led the team at 6.94 YPC in 2017 on 31 carries. 81% of his yards have been vs SEC opponents (inb4 "he beat up on FCS dudes"). All he seems to do is produce.

3) London (4.90)

4) Jordan (3.95)

5) Banks (3.56) - the guy that so many like was both last in rushing efficiency and first in fumbles last year. Aight...?

Actually thought deep passing was pretty good. Then again we've been absolutely atrocious there for most of the past decade.

We hit 23 passing plays of 30+ yards, the most since 2010. This was good for 33rd nationally, despite us only passing 297 times all season (119th nationally, ahead of only a mere 6 non-triple option teams). For how little we threw, we completed a good number of deep passes.

Fwiw we were 19th nationally at 40+ yard pass completions.

I agree that pass coverage from LB was top 3, but I think by far, the other two biggest weaknesses were pass pro OL and pass rush. And I would probably put run blocking OL as fourth. I would make the same list for the year before as well.
