Huge leap from looking at Barnes differently than being butt hurt. I'm not butt hurt at all. I love coach Barnes, was one of the few at the time that was 100% on board and thought he was exactly what the program needed. I still appreciate what he's done for this program and what I expect him to do going forward. However my perception of him has changed.

I wasn't necessarily referring to you, but am saying if fans are upset and now looking at Barnes differently (your words) simply because very briefly entertained an offer from a blue blood, then they are way too easily upset.

He's projected like 50-55 I thought

Everything I've seen has him top 25. I may be wrong, but I took the ones where he is at 55-60 as he was added last minute.

He won’t be a top 10-15 pick imo

Doubt it. 25-30 is probably his ceiling. His athleticism is going to limit him slightly, but the intangibles are obvious.

Size/skill combo will be his biggest detriment

He’ll measure at 6’5-6’6” and has very limited ability to create off the dribble or consistently hit an outside shot at the next level

Defense on a 3 in the league will be really tough for him too

I understand the allure of the UCLA job, especially to a historically-minded coach. You know you've got a successful program when other teams are trying to poach your coaches. I don't care if the buyout was the only reason he stayed; he still stayed. I still think he recruited and led the best Tennessee team that I've ever seen. We've got at least one five star coming in over the next few seasons, and I expect an uptick in recruiting based off our success.

Losing Barnes would have gutted our chances at a successful season. Maybe Grant stays and maybe Bone comes back. I would think those possibilities would have been much weaker if he had left. Just look at the coaches in the SEC, we can't pick up a an up-and-comer and expect to compete unless we've hit gold. SEC basketball probably has the strongest roster of coaches of any conference except the very top of the ACC. If we'd made a Nate Oats hire like Alabama, we would be right there in the bottom trying to climb up again.

I'm not speculating on anything. I've said what other coaches are going to say. If you think that we come out looking stronger for what happened over the last couple of days then we just fundamentally disagree. If you think the perception that the outside view of Barnes' commitment to the university is somehow stronger, we just fundamentally disagree. A couple of days ago people would be floored at the thought of Barnes leaving. Today that's not the case.
don't take my word for it. perception of Barnes and Tennessee looks to be ok here.

UCLA on the other hand.....well, more like UT football search, circa 2017. lol.

Media reacts to Rick Barnes turning down UCLA job

Just checking in to make sure that there has been no last minute sudden change and Rick Barnes is not on a plane to LA as I type this. Please pardon my BVS.

The Athletic's mock has him in the middle/late first round (around 18-24 pick). nbadraft.net also has a consensus mock that aggregates a lot of popular mocks, and he's 40 in that mock.

no, not the only reason. a reason.

I don't know why Kingston phrased it that way. Here's the part of the blog where it talks about it:

The UCLA deal hit a snag when UCLA wanted to give Barnes a $4 million signing bonus, then have him pay Tennessee the buyout. That would mean Barnes would be taxed about $1.6 million: 40 percent of $4 million.

Despite Barnes calling UCLA “one of the five best jobs in the country,’’ he wasn’t on board with UCLA’s buyout strategy and opted to stay at UT.

“This is a special place,’’ Barnes said of Knoxville.
