And let’s be honest: he could stick around here and end up being let go 3-4 years from now if he doesn’t earn any titles or do more in tournaments.

Probably just comes down to how he wants to go out and how much he wants for it. We should know shortly.

Yup. Will never bash a coach for leaving for an opportunity to better themselves. Fans have no loyalty at all. If he went 16-20 next year and missed the tournament we would be saying he’s washed up.

Like i said he’s done some great things here and i try not to ever take winnyjn for granted but there is also a very legit argument to him underachieving heavily when you have 3 nba players and don’t make it past the sweet 16

Honestly I really only believe that about 5 schools are "all in" basketball schools

1. Duke, without a doubt the top of the list
2. Kentucky
3. University of North Carolina
4. Kansas
5. Indiana

To me that's it...UCLA can say what they want and the media can paint it how they want, but really those are the top 5 now. They expect and desire top tier basketball and when they have it they show up to watch their teams.

Villanova, Louisville, Virginia also worth mentioning. Would say Michigan State could be there, but we all know their football program is king on campus.

If Grant and Bone are both gone, we're rebuilding anyway, Start over, clear some money off the books with Rick's buyout, and go get a hot up and comer who wants to be here and let him build his team.

I think he's a stopgap at UCLA, anyway. Put in a foundation, get the program back on track, retire in 3-4 years and UCLA could have a transition plan in place-- that could work out for both parties.
there was a lot of that talk when he was hired here too.

how ironic would it be if it turns out we were the stop gap program for him, vs. the other way around.

The problem right now is that the hottest up and comers have already left the dance with someone else.

Really when this is all said and done it came down to power of the postion and I believe Barnes thought he had more than he actually did. Regardless, one thing is for sure... the AD did everything he could in this situation but it’s always about business. I believe Barnes if not completely, almost overplayed his hand here.

To be honest...I don't see how anyone (us or UCLA) can truly justify paying Barnes more than Cal, Coach K, Izzo, Bennett, Self, Mack, Williams, Wright...if he gets more than 4 million a year wherever he ends up he's going to be on a hot seat immediately I think.

So what do you see happening?
