Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

I’m just saying if we’re going for a coach w low Major experience at least one who has been successful. What he’s done at liberty is remarkable. Ironically, he’s a reason there’s an opening at UCLA in the first place...
Yeah, I get it. VaTech just snatched up Wofford's coach. I liked what we had done there recently. We could do worse. I just hope we aim higher. A 31 win team from the SEC should aim higher. I'm not sure we have ever been in a better position to hire a proven winner.

And Barnes has all of the leverage

Nah. I don't think PF feels that way. I'd make a good faith, fair offer for both Barnes and his staff but I wouldn't go fiscally nuclear to keep him. Basketball is fun and exciting but it's not the cash cow football is. You go as far as you can with Barnes but not at the expense of what you need to do to stay ahead in the football arms race. UT is football. Reality.

Barne's isnt going anywhere. If you look at the list of coached UCLA talked to its a who's who of coaches. they are just throwing darts at the college coaching picture wall and hoping to land one.

I agree. I’m just saying if we’re going to hire someone like Lanier - a successful Major program assistant coach- at least consider someone w success as a HC at the lower level.

Barnes doesn’t have an agent. Tennessee wouldn’t want this to get out. Not sure what this does for UCLA to leak it, not like Barnes is a home run for them. Somebody is leaking it.

If you takes the job, you will see how wrong you are.

You also will see where UT fits in the basketball landscape. Hint: not a homerun place to coach.

That's a 7-8 million dollar dart to start.

I mean we got Rick Barnes and according to you he’s a great coach and UT was in a much worse spot then

Here is the problem for Fulmer. Right now, like it or not, men’s basketball is the crown jewel of the AD. Take it away and you’ve got nothing...except even more scrutiny and pressure on a lackluster football program.

I agree on not breaking the bank, but I don’t think it will take that. I also would not budge on the buyout one cent.

Agree. I'd only prefer Lanier if it meant we kept Grant, Bone, Josiah James, and Corey Walker. No unwelcomed departures via draft, transfer, or decommitment.

In a vacuum, I'd rather have McKay.

He definitely is a Top-20, and probably Top-10, Coach.

Much better than UT historically as a program.

Right now my gut says bad but I’m not sure. I find this whole thing odd
Odd is perfect way to describe this. Logic seems out the window (unless a $$$ play) ...which is what worries me. If it's not a move for raise, then I'd say we're in trouble.

I don’t think it is necessarily Barnes salary at play. Possibly assistants.

I think Barnes sees Fulmer out there throwing money around on football and women’s basketball...while thinking “why the hell cant the only successful program get enough to pay for the assistants I want....”

So Bruce is somehow in trouble for hiring a guy who had issues at a previous job? Wow! Shocking! Breaking News!

Bruce was exonerated of any misdeeds during the Person case.

Saying he is in hot water because of something in Bowman's past is purely asinine....

But hey, anything to knock Pearl right?

I gotta say the easy/slam dunk hire for PF would be Pearl. Fans love him. He loves UT. He's proven and successful. If I were doing the hire, I'd go with Pearl and lay a huge buyout on him along with wording that covers our program of he steps out of line with the NCAA. If we get him, we hurt a competitor, we recruit well and quickly, we play exciting bb, fans are ecstatic and I bet we start winning again sooner rather than later.

Perfect outcome for everyone....which is why it won't happen. Everyone wins. Everyone would be happy. Not the UT way. Plus, the admin would never sign off on it.

I like my jokes and I do not apologize for demeaning California. It deserves it. They're not even really jokes but illustrations of actual reality. I do not believe Barnes will leave a good retirement gig for assistants.

Like who? Cuonzo? He was toast anyways... Butch? He was toast...

Kiffin. Doesn’t matter if they were toast or not. Something is causing coaches to dislike coaching at UT. Even Dooley was begging to be fired a year early.

That something needs to be addressed.

This should Barnes dream job, and yet here we are with even him seemingly running for the exits.

Too many corn cobb up the butt types to allow that. It's a small but vocal minority who will be quick to shame you and anyone who says anything nice about Pearl. Not me though. That's only coach I'd be happy with initially other than Barnes, but also the least likely. Let's pray Barnes stays. That's clearly the best and only realistic outcome under current circumstances.

The only reason to leak it is to force Barnes'hand.

Why does this kind of crap happen to us more often than anyone else?

It's like we're cursed and can't have any nice things.
