Bruce didn't get a show cause for having a bbq. He got a show cause because he refused to admit to a secondary violation and chose to lie, making it a major violation. IF he had simply told the truth, he'd have gotten a slap on the wrist and would have remained the coach at UT. I don't understand why some fans blame the university for choices made by Bruce. UT did not ask him to lie to the NCAA. Bruce decided to do that. Everyone enjoyed the Bruce Pearl era of UT basketball, but it came to an end because of Pearl's own actions. I understand forgiving him, but forgetting??? That, to me, is what's crazy.
Maybe (probably...) I'm remembering wrong, but didn't Hamilton know what the NCAA knew before they talked to Bruce; could've at least given the man a heads up. Sure, it's still ultimately on Bruce for lying, but with better communication he'd still be here. Are you saying Hamilton told Bruce to lie to the NCAA? I don't believe that. Bruce chose to lie. He made his own bed.
No Hamilton didn't. But he did have knowledge of the photo prior to pearls meeting with the NCAA and didn't tell Pearl about it. If he'd have shared that info with Pearl, Pearl would not in all likelihood lied. Doesn't excuse pearl but also does sort of paint the situation in a different light. Are you saying Hamilton told Bruce to lie to the NCAA? I don't believe that. Bruce chose to lie. He made his own bed.
This is a pipe dream at best.
I just don't understand why you think it's a good idea. Just because he coaches at Kentucky? What are his credentials that impress you, and what makes you think we should immediately pursue an assistant coach right out of the gate?Don't respond to my posts if you don't like what i say and put me on ignore while you're at it because I just put you on ignore

Not at all considering the “crime”
Especially considering Frank Haith’s punishment, UNC’s fake classes issues, and Pitino sex club issues.
Bruce had a bbq and got the book thrown at him. Everyone could see there was zero consistency with the crime he committed and the punishment he was served among those other issues that actually benefitted each program on the court.
It’s also a relationship driven business and Fulmer was no fan of Mike Hamilton. Any other AD that was competent would have stood by Pearl and they would also know the show cause was a sham. Pearl also stayed in Knoxville until getting Auburn gig. He still knows all the power brokers, including Phil.
The “100% would never happen crowd” is crazy.
That's maybe the most logical reasoning I've seen posted about why it could possibly happen. I still don't believe it, but your reasoning at least makes sense. How many signatures were on that last petition? You think Fulmer wants to scramble around and try to find a coach that no fans are going to be satisfied with when he could just make one phone call and be done with it? We're not talking about some veteran AD...we're talking about Fulmer. He loves to be loved and he hates to be hated. He'll give the fans what they want. Bet on it.
I agree Hamilton was a horrible AD. That doesn't change Bruce being responsible for his own actions.I think a big part of the AD hating during that time was that the punishment didn’t meet the crime and the AD basically sabotaged the team and players and staff a day or two before our tourney game vs Michigan.
Hamilton was not a good AD for Tennessee for multiple reasons. But Pearl getting that team to the tournament was a tall task but big accomplishment.
Having Hamilton saying “ the jury is still out” 48 hours before the game basically ended the season and we got our asses handed to us by Michigan....
Would have been nice to have a competent AD.
He could unscrew it by calling Bruce Pearl.
This is true UT's lawyer had the picture and the University chose not to tip off Bruce. They chose to let him die on his own petard.I remember hearing on several occasions that Hamilton knew the NCAA had the photo from the cookout, knew it was at Pearl's home and Hamilton did not advise him of the situation ahead of time when the NCAA was coming to interview Pearl.
