I loved Bruce when he was here. I believed he loved Tennessee like no place ever.

I now believe that’s his public persona and he loves where he is employed. Think we as fans bought way to much into his feelings for UT. JMO
You could be right but I think it would be very hard not to love it here.

This is such a strange turn of events. If he leaves, you have to think it's over some kind of disagreement with the administration.

I mean, I could see it if he was an up and coming 30-40 yr old coach with no ties to the area. But Rick is at the tail end of his career, and (allegedly) his family loves it here.

Rick Barnes in Hollywood? Don't see it. Hope I'm right.

It would be easier to win in the pac12 than the sec. Barnes doesn’t fit in at UCLA, do they even have cheerwine in California? And Beard is from Texas, he won’t be leaving Tech anytime soon.

He took AU to the final four. We've never been to the final four. Our best team in history with barnes didn't even make it past the sweet 16. If Barnes is out, bring back Bruce.

Barnes to UCLA would be a bizarre move. Don't think it happens.

However, as I tell my wife every time we watch a UT sporting event: we must be mentally and emotionally prepared for any conceivable outcome...
"Bigfoot has been found and he will be the next coach of the Vols basketball team" would not even surprise me at this point.

Not that they wouldn't, but UCLA would need to pay him $7 mill a year for Rick to come out even - and that's before the raise Phill will give him. The taxes and cost of living out there is on a different planet than Tennessee.

much respect - talking dollars and sense!

To soften the blow a bit:
- Even under the best of circumstances, it won't be that long until we lose Rick to retirement.
- The roster is in good shape. A bunch of good coaches would take this job that might not have several years ago.
- Rob Lanier is basically the floor for the hire. And frankly, that might be the wisest move anyway.

I think I read where Barnes would have to get like a 3 million dollar raise to counter the cost of living in California. Smells like an agent playing the game but who knows. Barnes in California just seems odd.
