100% agree. Why leave Tennessee for UCLA? It’s not a better job. End of story. This is all noise folks. Carry on.

It does feel good to have a coach other programs actually want.

UCLA is most definitely a better job. You don’t have to leave the city to recruit and you have an easier league.

I’d love to see the day where UT basketball is in the same category as UCLA and other blue bloods but this ain’t it, Chief.

They’d have to pay a drastic amount to get it done, and there’d have to be an issue with our administration behind the scenes.

Once again, they fired Alford in 2018 and still haven’t come close to a realistic replacement. They are desperate and have cash. Who’s to say offering Barnes 5-6 plus million dollars per year wouldn’t be possible?

If you’re gonna spend lots of money, mightas well go for then better coaches in the country.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, just that it would almost take a perfect (disastrous for us) set of circumstances to make this happen.

UCLA would have to pay a drastic amount more than Tennessee just to compensate for the disparity in purchasing power between east Tennessee and southern California. They have the money to do it, but I expect Barnes to be offered a good enough raise here to keep him happy. I don't think he has more than 5 or 6 years of coaching left anyway and won't want to start over.

You people are on a cocktail of crack, LSD and meth...and maybe more.

The delusion runs strong.

Yea, Jay Wright is only working in his hometown where he’s won 2 national titles. Why wouldn’t it make sense for him to leave for UT, who has never been to a FF? Lol.

Delusional is correct.

1. Rick Barnes isn't leaving Tennessee for UCLA for anything less than twice his current salary. It just makes no sense from so many angles.

2. It is apparent that people will believe Bruce Pearl is the inevitable next coach at Tennessee until the day he dies.

You forget that we are the program that is so unlucky that we had to have two different NCAA rule changes in Football because of losses we had.

Not to mention our streak of one possession/OT tourney losses in basketball. Plus, the Bruce Pearl ending.

Murphy's Law is pretty much synonymous with us.

So if he knows he only has 5-6 years left in the tank and last achievement has on the list is a natty, why stay at UT over UCLA? I think that will be the biggest determination here

If Barnes leaves, and frankly I can't imagine he actually will, I don't think it's going to be because they can give him a 3 million dollar raise. If Barnes, at 64, hasn't made enough after this long in high profile jobs to keep his family secure, I'd be extremely surprised. If he leaves it will be because UCLA is one of the big 5 programs in NCAA history. If you win big there you become a basketball immortal. Not sure Rick is a HoF coach at this point, but coaching at UCLA and doing well there would mean a lot for that legacy.
