It’s been proven you don’t even need coaching experience to win at a high level in basketball (Steve Kerr). The days of going out and stealing a comfortable high profile are pretty much over. Even for the best programs
I have a feeling we are on totally different pages here. Kara is an exceptional TV personality, and was an exceptional basketball player at UT. However, that by no means qualifies her for a position of HC.

You’re assuming she’s a good coach? Is that enough to hand over the keys to arguably one of the top women’s basketball programs in the country? She’s gonna win the interview and pressers? Why does that matter? You’re only strengthening my argument that this is a political hire at best to please the lady vol contingent.

She’s one of the first full time female tv analysts for an NBA team. She’s watches and is around the game on a daily basis.

I would probably prefer a current high level coach, but I can get behind her hire.

I haven't seen it, but they were saying at church that Candace Parker thinks Kara is the best choice. AND.. Congrats to Rick Barnes for receiving coach of the year honors. Such an honorable man and great role model!

Haha NBA coaches just have best seat in arena. Not much coaching involved.

Show me Steph, Klay, Durant, Boogie, Draymond on this roster.

Any one of us could “coach” that roster.

Again don’t care who they hire though. I just liked the reference. Now get back to solving LV problems.

Apples/oranges. Steve Kerr doesn’t work out in the NBA and he’s fired after 5 games and next man up. College basketball and the wrong hire sets you back a couple of seasons due to messed up recruiting classes and buyouts.

Not necessarily if the coach has some roster control and offers bad contracts/picks that’s gonna set you back to. It’s much easier to bounce back in college with the right hire. It took Bruce pearl no time to put us on the map in basketball. Same thing with Barnes

Basically the only knock on her you seem to have is no experience. Nothing is going to prepare you for a job like Tennessee. So coaching at another school especially a small one doesn’t matter.

So y’all would have been ok with Witten taking football job?

Allegedly wanted it.

I need a resume. Claiming VFL status is awesome. Love them for it but how does that translate to winning? An AD would be taking huge risk. Could be great reward also could be great failure and you have absolutely nothing to point towards as reasons you made the hire.

Again please figure this out. Y’all get back to it

Football is a different animal. People in baseball and basketball have stepped in with no experience and won big.

Hank, you’re assuming a lot here man.

You’re only complaint is lack of experience. I’m telling you no experience can prepare you for being a HC at a major program like TN. You do more recruiting and people management than anything. I would think she could get find an assistant or two with experience that could help with everything she lacks in

Still think it’s a big risk with zero experience. Again could make Fulmer look like a genius. Also could make him look foolish.

Dammit Hank quit dragging me into this conversation 😂
Lol I’m just saying every hire is a risk. The guy he hired to run the biggest football program in the country was never a head coach and had prior rumors. And accusations about co eds and getting drunk and wanting to whip mark richts ass lol. Miss me with the resume talk.

He had coaching experience and was the best defensive coordinator/recruiter in the nation.

That’s resume stuff.

Kerr took basically the same roster that Mark Jackson had available...all the way. When Kerr was absent due to back issues, Luke Walton set the pace that led the team to a NBA record in wins. If neither hadn’t, they would have been replaced fairly easily. If Pearl had failed instead of coaching up Buzz Peterson’s leftovers, the program would have eased back to Wade Houston levels before the right guy could’ve brought them back. I’m on record saying it takes one class to get you up and running, but Bruce took a decent roster further and the classes (and talent) got better and better as a result. Took longer for Barnes to reclaim the downward trend of Zo leaving and Tyndall being fired after one season. Rosters are achieved in the NBA by draft, free agency and trade. The guy that coaches that roster up is more fluid (and disposable) on that level. Jerry Tarkanian not cut it? Take a flyer on that Poppovich dude.
