The graduate transfer rule, the rare N.C.A.A. regulation that gives leverage to the athlete, has been used by hundreds of players since it was relaxed in 2011. And at a moment when athletic admission graft, shoe company payola and questions about whether a transcendent (and unpaid) figure like Zion Williamson should even risk playing college basketball at all, the graduate transfer rule casts the beleaguered N.C.A.A. as reasonable and almost munificent.

It is also a rule that may not last much longer.

In two weeks, the N.C.A.A.’s primary legislative body, the Division I Council, will vote on a measure that could severely restrict graduate transfers. The proposed rule change would require that colleges accepting graduate transfers be docked a scholarship the next year if the transfer does not earn his secondary degree within a year.

The proposal, which could go into effect as soon as Aug. 1, would apply to only three sports — football, women’s basketball and men’s basketball — but appears particularly aimed at men’s basketball. Football teams, with 85 scholarships, are far more capable of coping with the loss of a single scholarship than a men’s basketball squad, which has 13. And there are roughly twice as many graduate transfers each year in men’s basketball as in women’s basketball.

N.C.A.A. Clock May Be Running Out on Graduate Transfers

It’s probably already been asked an answered but are you a candidate for a transplant?
Reasons for a transplant, include chronic kidney disease and upper stage diabetes. The waiting list prioritizes, making pancreatitis lower in comparison. At least if/until it progresses into one of these . So, no, at least not yet.

Plus, as listed in the disqualifications sections of most transplant facilities
  • No insurance coverage or inability to handle the expenses involved with the transplant[/QUOTE
Insurance doesn't want to pay until there is a more immediate threat to life or insulin and other medications costs surpass transplant costs. Money talks and it's highly unlikely that I can afford the sonic pulse procedure in SC. They already took all my monies😄

This really only hurts the athletes. I mean, let the kids play ball.
Yeah, at first glance, not seeing how this rule benefits, at least certainly not the athletes.
Seems like another random NCAA attempt at control. No impact on bluebloods that already have depth, just the programs in more need and the graduates.
Typical.

It's so slow that I've even been reading the BB and LVBB threads.
And goodness, some of the hot takes from those forums.

Barnes not good enough for TN?
"F.a.t Phil's" job on the line with the LV hc hire? He better pay the LV coach "football money"?

I want to dominate in every sport but please, ladies and gentlemen, please keep arms and legs inside the reality zone for the duration of the ride.

Honestly I think Phil's LV hire is going to underwhelm the majority of fans. For one Holly was making less than 700k, granted she didn't exactly prove she was elite but there's quite a few other SEC teams paying their coaches over a million. Another reason I don't think he throws money at the job is the Men's assistant coaches that are leaving. Barnes has turned the program around and it's making money for the university whereas the Lady Vols are not, so Phil will invest more in getting Barnes the right assistants to keep that program profitable and that likely impacts how much he's willing to pay the new Lady Vol's hire.

Doesn't mean he doesn't pick a good coach, but the chance he pulls in a proven big time D1 winner are pretty slim.

Ridiculous proposal. They're handing out waivers left and right for players in the transfer portal to play immediately, and now they want to discourage players who were true student athletes from deciding where they want to finish their college career. By all means, let's find a way to penalize the people who are generating ALL the revenue. The NCAA is more laughable every day. Give me a freaking break.

I think it will either be Wes Moore or an up and coming mid major coach or top assistant coach from a top program. People are delusional if they think Kim Mulkey is going to leave Baylor .

People turning on Barnes need to ask: how many final fours did Ray Mears make? Bernard King? Dale Ellis? Allan Houston? Bruce Pearl while at Tennessee?

Barnes is doing a lot of great things and is already setting program records in just four years. He has us right on the verge of breaking into terroritory we’ve never been in and recruiting is going up.

Why bail on him now?

Makes no sense.

Barnes is the best coach we have on campus and it’s not close.

Man people take winning and good seasons for granted around here.
