Honestly I kinda hate that former players feel it necessary to put in their opinion.

I wish more of them just trusted the university and made blanket statements like, "UT has a great program and AD I will fully support any hire they make since I know they'll have the best interest of the team in mind when hiring a candidate."
It’s new territory...I’ll give them that. All their LIVES it’s been Pat Summitt and what she left behind. Just can’t bind yourself with that mentality...UT tried.

Just hope tonight Purdue feels like the away team.

GBO!

Yeah why can't we hope Purdue has the off game? Maybe they come out flat or cold shooting. It doesn't always have to be us. So I am hoping we see the A team come out and blazing. I hope we can handle the 7' center and shut down the one guy that is their offense. I think Turner will do a great job o him tonight.

If we just get a Tennessee team that plays a bit more like the first half vs Iowa than the second half there is no reason not to win tonight.

UT asks former players for their opinions in multiple sports. One of them sits on the board. Several of them serve on advisory committees. Many are donors and fundraisers. Some of them are still active in their sport, so they're a good resource.

Right, but then there's guys like Haynesworth who comes out acting like not hiring Tee Martin for his FIRST head coaching job is because the university is racist...

I guess I'd rather them be less vocal publicly about their opinion on it. I get that everyone is entitled to an opinion, but the fan-base holds on to so much of that stuff and then the media won't let it go and new coaches are answering dumb questions about candidates that were never even candidates.

Honestly tho there’s no reason any of us should blindly trust our Admin. Our last two baseball hires didn’t work. Last 3 football. Last 2 before Barnes. So we’re what 1-7 recently?

Always count on you for the rosy outlook.. I don't have the time to backtrack all your posts but I would bet a large portion are negative but I'm sure u would just call them real..

I'm sure there'll be a lot of interest. It's an opportunity that has never been available before-- and hopefully won't be available again for a long time. A lot of former players want someone with ties to the program. But it might be better to move away from that.
Problem is that I just don't see anyone with ties to the program that's a home-run hire.

Not saying that but a single AD isn’t the only one calling the shots ever.
So far Phil's AD has done nothing to warrant trust issues. The past couple of ADs did pretty early. We already know feelers have gone out to Walz. Who's to say they haven't gone out to Schaefer or Staley?

A lot of the admin are still the same. AD is different. Money buys are the same.

Athletic Directors
Mike Hamilton 2003-2011 gone
Dave Hart 2011-2017 gone
John Currie 2017-2018 gone

Chancellor
Loren Crabtree 2003–2008 gone
Jimmy Cheek 2009-2017 gone
Beverly Davenport 2017-2018 gone

President
Joe DiPietro 2011-2018 gone
Jan Simek 2009-2010 gone
John Petersen 2004-2009 gone

I mean, that's 3 major positions all with brand new people in them...but I guess the admin are still the same.

Curry had done everything right prior to wiffing on Mullen and hiring Schiano. I’m not saying don’t trust fulmer I’m just saying in general it’s silly to blindly follow and don’t question this university lol.

President and chancellor are just signing off on what ADs want. The money guys and assistant ADs are doing the leg work on searches.

Right, but it's the whole fanbase that's extremely vocal. Those outspoken opinions played a role in getting Schiano not hired, making Cuonzo want out and getting Butch and Holly fired sooner than some at UT would have liked. They amped up the Gruden and Freeze rumors. Player opinions are a very small part of the outspokenness that surrounds anything UT, and the media plays it up because it's profitable. I agree it's not always helpful.

Curry didn't do anything before that. He was late firing butch tho.

Everything right? You mean cause he showed up for all of that 8 months he was on the job?

I mean his only hire was Tony Vitello...and him firing Butch wasn't exactly a hard decision to make.

Vitello hire brought a lot of praise in the baseball world. Their classes coming in are really good especially 2020/2021.

And whether it’s easy or not he still pulled the trigger. So props for him on that.
