I see many post about the lack of production from those not sold on JG. I see many of those posters pine for a "Crompton like" Sr leap/turnaround from JG.

So in other words you just want him to throw the ball more? I think many fail to realize he already took a leap last year to have a better yr than Sr Crompton that y'all want him to "reach." JG was already better in every single category except the raw total number stats. Anyone who knows football knows those are the worse stats to judge qb performance on due to differences in personnel and coaching schemes.

With improved and less conservative playcalling we will be fine. Time to open it up this year. If we do the o will be good.

We can't afford turnovers and JG doesn't give it up often. That's more important than most are giving him. I believe he'll be fine if our line can be more consistent so he doesn't get killed.

If Crompton is the standard...then we are in trouble. Even as a senior, he was at best a game manager.

AMEN TO THAT

But since he brought it up lets take note that Crompton (on average) threw a touchdown once every 14 attempts while JG threw a touchdown once every TWENTY attempts. Big diff there regardless of ANY other stats.

Probably the biggest factor in winning SEVEN games instead of FIVE

How? It is clearly about JG in comparison to Crompton.

People who have complained about JG have also asked for him to "get it" like Crompton his Sr year.

JG is already better than Sr Crompton. He just needs more attempts.

I would think that Peyton Manning would be the standard that QBs are measured by at UT.

And one would have to go way, way, way down the list before they get to Crompton.

So I'm the only one who has seen the million, " I hope Chaney can turnaround JG like Crompton," posts? 🙄

Or the, "one of the worst seasons by a qb," posts?

Amazing what those quick slants can do for stats! Same with he and Ainge. But, Ainge did have a cannon however.

He doesn’t have either Claussen’s head....
Lol. That is why I mde this post. For people who say dub stuff like this.

CC you have a case. Rick? lmao

04- 59.36 % 7 ypa 6.5 adj ypa 8 tds/5ints 130.2 rating
05- 57.4% 6.9 ypa 6.2 adj ypa 6tds/6int 19.1 rating.

What in those stats say Rick was better mentally? Just because you want soemthing to be true doesn't make it so. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Casey Clausen
Jr year with Kelly Washington and Jason Witten. Houston, Davis, Fleming, Riggs in the backfield
62.6% 2297 yards 11tds/7ints 7.4 ypa 7.1 adj ypa 132 rating

CC was good. Benefited from starting a ton of games with a ton of talent around him also.

I miss the talent they had around them.

JG throws the ball better than Clausen.

The year CC didn't have a ton of NFL wrs and rbs, JR year, he was way worse than JG last year.
I think I was 7 that year that your speaking of. My only real memory is getting beat by Alabama and being genuinely surprised. But I agree with you in the sense that I think JG could be pretty decent especially if he gets blocking

You could have put it in any of the other JG threads, but you didn't, you put Crompton's name on the title. Doesn't matter anyway.

Only speaking for myself, but when I say I hope he gets it like Crompton did, I simply mean I hope the difference between last year and this year with JG is like the difference it was with Crompton between his Jr. And Sr. Year. Who wouldn't?

Man I miss that talent.. back in the days where our Fullbacks turned into starting RB's in the NFL and our benchwarmer WR's got roster spots at least through preseason. Remember Shawn Bryson who was the starting FB for the 98 team at UT 500 career rushing yards and started games for both the Bills and Lions as a RB. We were that deep.

I felt this needed a thread. I have repeatedly heard people would be happy if he had a Crompton year or he needs to get it like Crompton or some combination of those.

He already did and is already better than Sr Crompton.

That kills the narrative he was one of the worst qbs ever last year and that he also didn't improve a ton. He did.

Now he needs to build on it.

I think we all agree he needs to continue improving.

Let's be honest...if Ainge or Clausen (both of whom I appreciate as great Vols) played behind last year's offensive line, they would have been broken by the time we got to UGA game.

Half as many TDs and yards does not equate to better. Perhaps in some alternate universe where the guy who attempts one pass in a season and completes it is the best QB in the NCAA because he has a perfect ratio, but not in the real world.

And to say that Guarantano has ever at any moment on this earth been in the same universe as Casey Clausen as a quarterback is ludicrous; silly would also be a good word for it.

For me its not about Sr. Crompton, its about Crompton became 93.26% better in his Sr. Year with Kiffin and Chaney. I hope JG becomes 93.26% better this year with Chaney and Weinke than he was last year.

Interceptions to TD ratio and ratings aren't everything. How many times did we lose because we only got to the 2? Nice pass, nice completion for no points and no victory. Sometimes good ratings and lack of turnovers is also the result of not being able to throw receivers open. We have had good talent in the receiver corps, so they can get wide open. That's when they get the ball, but rarely is the ball released from JG unless it's a sure thing. Good QB's throw more interceptions than JG does because they aren't afraid of them. They also know when not to risk it...deep in own territory, etc. Of course they also know not to take sacks. What is his sack to completion ratio?? Lol!!
