The Atlanta Braves

Meaning what exactly? I’m an idiot and need an explanation lol

Because of the Disney/FOX merger the Supreme Court ruled that Disney had to sell the 21 regional sports network that was brought in with the merger that FOX had created and owned. So there’s a huge bidding rights to get those RSN’s and Liberty Media is one of the companies trying to buy them and considered the front runner to own them. What that would mean for the Braves is pretty close to zero in the short term. Liberty Media cannot use spend any money on the Braves per the agreement when they bought the team.

However, there is potentially one thing that sticks out. Since Liberty Media would then own the Braves television rights, they could wipe out the current contract that runs out in 2027 (which is the worst in baseball) and the Braves could then potentially start their own channel or get a new television deal.

This would be nice, but we’re the Braves so we’ll probably screw it up.

The more I think about the Liberty Media thing, the more interesting it is.

The Braves, Hawks, and Atlanta United all are under the Fox Sports South network plus the Braves and Hawks are under the Fox Sports Southeast umbrella (along with the Predators, Hurricanes, Hornets, and Grizzlies,). If Liberty Media bought the RSN’s, Liberty Media could shred the Hawks, Braves, United, and Preds televisions contracts, and then have the Braves create their own channel and the Braves could start their own channel with those teams also on the same channel like YES Network or NESN.

I have no clue if LM would be willing to do that, if it’s legal, or if it’s feasible or what the money would bring. But for the Braves it could potentially bring in millions per year but billions over the life of the contract if they started their own channel and got those other teams rights. Potentially.

YES sucks (outside of the Yankees, they have the secondary teams in the area).

Trae Young is going to win an MVP one day. His talent is off the charts

I don't know about an MVP but he is staggeringly skilled offensively. I can't wait to see what he's going to be like after a few years of experience. And hopefully the Hawks will eventually get more guys who can hit the open shots he's getting them.

I read this post with the same feeling that I still get, at almost 40, when I see a cop car unexpectedly in my rear view. I know nothing is wrong but I'm getting nervous anyway.

All is good my man, will be done working by about 11 am today, little man is at one grandparent's house tonight and another grandparent's tomorrow while wifey and I go to one of those dumbass fake casino night things but at least I get to consume copious amounts of cheap (but free) champagne. Gonna be a fine weekend my friend.

Forgot to mention, wifey's company also throws March Madness events at different bars around town where all the employees have to do (not counting all the prep work they did this week leading up to today) is show up and drink while the games are on. As a spouse of the marketing director, I get to meet up with all of them, watch them Vols and all of the other ball while drinking on her company's dime.

Right - these TV networks are worth much more in the long term than the actual baseball team - especially 21 of them.

So if it happens, either LM is able to invest more into the team as a result, or they’ll sell and commit their time to the regional channels.

That’s a terrible way to spend your time

If Liberty Media is committed to doing anything but spending money on the roster, I don't see how more TV money changes that. I guess we could get some crumbs.
