I find it difficult to hate him as much as I used to. He always supports the conference and I do think he cares about his kids.True.
But on the flip side Cal has done an admirable job in explaining how hard it is to win with typically the best but young talent. Hes done a good job selling how great it is to get guys drafted and in 1 year in most cases.
It wasnt a shot at him. He seems very likable and genuine with the guys he coaches and the few people I know who have met him said he was a very likable guy. Regardless of the fact he coaches at UK.I find it difficult to hate him as much as I used to. He always supports the conference and I do think he cares about his kids.
I miss the old days when you played your whole career with the team that drafted you.The 70's were great time to be a young fan.I still remember the Steelers,Raiders,Cowboys ect.At age 52 I can still recall alot of the starting lineups off those teams. Mainly because they stayed with the same teams forever.I kinda feel sad for the modern day NFL fan.Reason I hate pro-sports.
Well in the original conversation I compared UT's seeding (3rd) to Ole Miss (6th) and was stating that UT had essentially backslid from last year and finished lower this year, while Ole Miss had climbed from a worst record in conference finish last year. A different poster then stated UT finished 2nd this year so I was countering that point by saying then Ole Miss was tied for 4th. Because they would be if we're purely looking at the record and not the seeding which it appeared that poster was doing, you then chimed in and here we are...I changed my statement to clarify the point for you to better understand what I was meaning.
To be clear I'm not making an argument for Davis, he won so the debate doesn't exist. I'm simply sharing the reasons I believe Davis was selected. I pointed out the end results because Barnes this season returned every starter from his previous SEC Champion team, so the expectations were higher. Obviously he can't do better than 1st, but to return that much production and finish 3rd in the SEC is likely what was the deciding factor for him not winning the SEC Coach of the Year, had we beaten Auburn and repeated as SEC Champions then I believe he would have at least been co-coach of the year, but who knows if the media panel would have agreed.
He prefers the facts are not in favor of TN. Ignores the rest. Then is shocked that Tennessee fans prefer the facts, like the ones you stated, that are in favor of our team....EDIT...lol then he says don't be petty, stupid, etc. when you don't agree with his arguments.I figured you were probably trying to come up with some reasons why Davis won COY instead of Barnes but I didn't go back and read all the back n forth. Not sure why a UT fan would be trying to make this argument... but that doesn't matter.
Now that I see your comments about UT "backsliding" from last year. I disagree with that also. UTs SEC record went from 13-5 last year to 15-3 this year. I wouldn't call that "backsliding". The difference was that LSU and KY were much better this year so they ended up with the same or better records than UTs improved 15-3 record.
Facts are:
UT finished tied for 2nd and the 3rd tourney seed.
Ole Miss finished tied for 6th and the 7th tourney seed.
I don't have a problem with Davis winning COY over Barnes because Ole Miss was picked dead last. However, I do sometimes reply when people make statements that I disagree with.
Wonder how many "self made" millionaires on your list hit the Powerball or megamillions. Since it draws 2 Times a week. I bet a good percentage are of them.Yup, "self-made" is a poor category title as Zuck examples. Did he and friends build something from the ground up? No doubt. But was he born with and came into extraordinaire opportunities? No doubt.
I don't really care about arguing over delineating all the variables, nor is there likely a simple answer at the end of the rainbow.
The only thing I truly dislike are the few egomaniacs that want to strip the world of all helping hands or structural support (publicly funded education, social safety nets, etc) because they claim "true" self-made status. According to their autobiographical mythology, they just grew up in a desert of isolation with nary a hand of support from a parent, friend, nor society. Never even used public roads, infrastructure, telecom, or human capital to succeed. They were just a rogue individual that invented or developed something and everyone else should do the same. These myths and ignorance of the pervasive support any person needs to succeed in life are the one thing that will bother me in this debate. Not political, just can't stand individuals externalizing their own experiences as what ought to be true in reality, especially when their perceived experience is a myth.
I find it difficult to hate him as much as I used to. He always supports the conference and I do think he cares about his kids.
Wrong. I was the one who responded, pointing out that we finished tied for 2nd, not 3rd. And below is your statement I responded to with the relevant part highlighted. Nowhere in the post do you mention seeding. That may be what you meant, but it's not what you said.
None of it really matters, but accuracy is always a good thing. Well, unless you're trying to win a debate.
He prefers the facts are not in favor of TN. Ignores the rest. Then is shocked that Tennessee fans prefer the facts, like the ones you stated, that are in favor of our team....EDIT...lol then he says don't be petty, stupid, etc. when you don't agree with his arguments.
You called her petty and stupid and that she cherry picked, because she didn't agree that Ole Miss coach was more deserving. It's a free country, you can make an argument for another team on VOL Nation, but don't call people names because they think otherwise.Means alot coming from someone who constantly ADDS statements to QUOTABLE post and acts like the person said it because SHE says they did...
@OrangenSC at least quoted the post, and he's right I didn't mention seeding although it's what I was referring too, I made an assumption people would understand that was inferred since I used UT & Ole Miss seeding rankings when mentioning where they finished.
