That's funny! All the sorry-ass Pearl lovers coming out of the woodwork after today's game. Where ya been all season!
Edit: I forgot the why part. Because Pearl ain't nothin' but a carnival barker and a snake oil salesman!
I remember quite a few posters on Volnation after Bruce Pearl was hired by Auburn said that they would root for Auburn in Men's Basketball instead of Tennessee because they didn't like Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall.Don't really like this poll. Barnes is the man and I'm perfectly happy with it. Having said that, these kind of discussion kind of go with the territory when your former coach out coaches your current coach.
Now compare how many tourney appearances each has to get those numbers? Not like it’s even. I’m no Barnes basher but your argument lacks major context.
Well done. I was curious how those numbers translated apples to apples.Sure...
Barnes has made the NCAAT 69% of his years as a head coach, Pearl 46%.
Barnes has made the Sweet 16 19% of his years as a head coach, Pearl 13%.
Barnes has made the Elite 8 6% of his years as a head coach, Pearl 4%.
Barnes has made the Final Four 3% of his years as a head coach, Pearl 0%.
I notice the Pearl haters never mention that Pearl has a national championship under his belt.
Pearl is better post season
Barnes is better regular season (except for when he had Durant)
I've watched them a few times in wins and losses this season. That team is in a crazed 3pt attack or slash to the rack & dump to another 3. It's not solid offense. By design this team can win most any game and will drop quickly out of the ncaat as well.
Edit:. CBP knows thier is not solid paint play, so they are going this gunslinger route bc he has the athletes to do it
15 years, to be exact. Barnes has 33 years. Twice the time in D1 coaching, and twice the accomplishments. This needs to be broke down per season to carry any weight. Pearl has only been a D1 coach for about 12 or 13 years. Barnes has at least twice that maybe more.
Bingo.Pearl is only good in the postseason if his team is considered the underdog. His 2 best teams at UT as far as NCAAT seeding underachieved in the NCAAT. His 2 best NCAAT performing teams were considered underdogs. And then had 2 one and dones, with the last one not even really counting since they were sleepwalking.
So this notion that Pearl is great in the postseason is some orange colored glasses nostalgia.
Why would we mention a division II national championship from 1995 at Southern Indiana. He had already figured out how to buy players from his assistant coaching experience in the 80's at Iowa. With the Division II scholarship limitations back then, you could probably buy an entire roster of the most talented players on that level, with no worry of any scrutiny from the governing body, for the going price of one Javonte Smart. Do you really want to open up that can of worms?
A national Championship at a wayyyyyy lower level. Not same conversation. LolI notice the Pearl haters never mention that Pearl has a national championship under his belt. That said, Barnes is our coach now and he should have our full support. Pearl is history, great ride, but so is the ride we are now on.
Or BBQ pit masterBarnes is a better program builder and gives us stability, overall I would rather have Barnes, but for one big game Pearl might be the best, he is such a great motivator. Since I have to choose one I vote Barnes, he has integrity, character. paearl whom I love has a used car salesman mentality or snake oil salesman.
